Rob Lynch appointed as Director of Cricket & Operations at MCC

Posted: 19 April 2024

MCC has today announced that Rob Lynch will become the Club’s new Director of Cricket & Operations.

He will succeed Jamie Cox, who is leaving MCC after nearly three years in post to take up the role of Chief Executive at Somerset County Cricket Club.

Lynch is currently the Chief Executive of the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) having originally joined the organisation as Commercial Director in 2020.

His list of highlights at the PCA include navigating the organisation and its members through the pandemic, the increased development of the women’s game, and working closely with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on England’s return to touring in Pakistan.

He was previously the Commercial Director and Chief Operating Officer at Middlesex Cricket, having already performed several roles across various cricket-based organisations.

Before beginning in cricket administration, Lynch was an aspiring young professional player, representing New Zealand Under-19s, and was an MCC Young Cricketer during the 2000 season. He is a Member of MCC and has played 60 matches for the Club.

The role will see Lynch head up the cricketing departments of MCC, responsible for delivering the Club’s Cricket Strategy. This encompasses the Club’s Out-Match and overseas touring programme, which sees MCC play over 500 fixtures each year. He will also oversee MCC’s global cricketing role, which includes guardianship of the Laws of Cricket and the MCC World Cricket committee.

Alongside the cricketing aspects of the role, Lynch will oversee the day-to-day operational function at Lord’s, with match day operations a particular focus during the many world-class fixtures held at the Ground each summer.

Lynch will assume the role in July, ahead of the first men’s Test match of the season, between England and West Indies.

"With cricket’s ever-changing landscape, we are very fortunate to be appointing an individual who has such deep experience of the operations in the game, on and off the field"

MCC Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender said: “Following a thorough recruitment process, I am delighted to welcome Rob back to MCC. There was an extremely high calibre of candidates who applied for the role, and Rob was the standout individual.

“With cricket’s ever-changing landscape, we are very fortunate to be appointing an individual who has such deep experience of the operations in the game, on and off the field. Rob is no stranger to Lord’s and the structure of MCC, meaning he can hit the ground running as we embark on another busy summer.

“I would like to thank Jamie Cox for his huge contribution to MCC over the past three years. He has led on numerous projects during that time, including our Cricket Strategy and I wish him the best for an exciting role at Somerset. I am certain he will make a success of it.”
