MCC in Australia: MCC v Bradman Foundation XI

A promising opening partnership between Michael Vaughan and Jon Walford was broken when Walford was caught by Surrey CCC Media Manager Nathan Ross, who had returned to his home country for a Christmas break. Walford was followed fairly rapidly by Vaughan, who was caught behind slashing at a wide ball from Duncan MacPherson. Neil Hicks and Ben Debenham threatened to revive the innings but both fell in the teens leaving MCC on 111-4 with 21 overs to go. A sprightly partnership between Peter Gibson (55) and Will Cooper (32) steadied the ship and the late hitting of Liam Plunkett (25*) and Mark Walton (11*) ensured a respectable total of 229-6.

In reply, the Bradman Foundation XI lost early wickets, and were reduced to 28-3. Ross and MacPherson steadied the ship with a stand of 35, before Ross was caught by Gibson off the bowling of Robert Pack for 24. MacPherson went on to top-score with 75 but his was the only innings of real note and, after the 50-plus partnership between him and A Dean was broken, the Bradman Foundation succumbed to 164 all out.
