Tony Greig will deliver the twelfth MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture, at Lord’s, on Tuesday 26 June 2012.
The charismatic former international all-rounder will become the second ex-England captain to deliver the Lecture, following in the footsteps of Geoffrey Boycott in 2005.
Previous speakers have included other greats from the game and beyond - such as Imran Khan, Adam Gilchrist and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Earlier this year Kumar Sangakkara’s stirring and eloquent Cowdrey Lecture instigated a world-wide press reaction, and continues to invoke discussion today.
Following the Lecture Mark Nicholas will host a panel discussion, featuring Greig alongside other eminent figures from the cricketing world, to debate some of the game’s key issues.
The Decision Review System and the future of Test cricket in the Twenty20 age sparked intriguing and varied viewpoints from this year’s panel of Michael Holding, Andrew Strauss and Clare Connor.
A full list of the 2012 panelists will be announced in the New Year.
Phillip Hodson, MCC President, spoke of his admiration for Greig.
"Fiercely competitive on the field and hugely insightful off the field, Tony has had a wonderful career in the game," he said.
"Never one to shun the limelight or shy away from voicing his opinion, I am sure that his lecture will be in keeping with the way he played the game.
“I very much look forward to welcoming him to Lord’s to deliver one of the highlights in the MCC calendar, and listen to him tackle some of the key issues that currently surround the game.”
