Taking the Field

Blaina CC celebrate winning the Eastern Division of the South Wales and Monmouthshire League in 1926 'Taking the Field' is a collaborative project between the MCC and the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling at the University of Glamorgan.
It aims to create a collection of digital media stories - short oral histories complemented with music, video and photographs - that reflects the importance of grassroots cricket to local communities in both the UK and Sri Lanka.
‘Taking the Field’ wants local clubs to tell their own stories using their voices, photographs and ideas. The digital stories will be displayed in the MCC Museum and online on our website.
Grassroots

Blaina's first XI pose for a team photograph in 1960 The stories cover the cricketing histories of clubs - great players, successful seasons, championship wins and so on - but also the communities around them: the youth teams, fundraising efforts, changing communities.
In simple terms, how much love and effort goes into our grassroots cricket clubs.
‘Taking the Field’ has been working with one club in South Wales - Blaina CC - and our first digital stories are all about them.
Over the 2011 summer we will work with various clubs around the UK, and intend to head out to Sri Lanka in the winter of 2011-12.
To do this we need clubs to tell their stories - if your local club wants to get involved and share its history, then please get in touch.
