Batsmen ready for Pietersen absence

England’s batsmen will be keen to make the most of Kevin Pietersen’s non-selection for the ODI series with Pakistan.
The fourth ODI takes place, under floodlights, at Lord’s on September 20.
Burden to shoulder
Luke Wright is among those looking to impress The likes of Ravi Bopara, Jonathan Trott and Luke Wright will instead be given the opportunity to cement their place in the England middle order against Pakistan.
Pietersen's pretenders have big shoes to fill. The Surrey batsman was Man of the Series at the ICC World T20 in the Caribbean this spring and averages more than 42 from his 104 ODIs to date.
But the 30-year-old has been in poor form during the English summer so far, failing to trouble the scorers on his last visit to Lord’s in the fourth npower Test match against Pakistan.
Morgan in the spotlight
A lot will be expected of Middlesex's Eoin Morgan Pietersen’s absence will put even more pressure on England’s latest ODI hero Eoin Morgan in the middle order.
The Irish-born Middlesex player is, at just 23-years-old, the key component in the England middle order and possesses the ability to rapidly alter the course of a match with his measured, unconventional hitting.
He had an inconsistent Test series which finished with a duck on his home ground at Lord’s and will be relishing the return to coloured clothing.
Davies gets his chance
Steven Davies is the other player to be given a chance to shine by the selectors, beating previous incumbent Craig Kieswetter and in-form Test regular Matt Prior to the wicket-keeper spot.
The 24-year-old was given a taste of ODI cricket during last year’s ICC Champions Trophy and has excelled at his new county Surrey this season, averaging over 50 in domestic one-day matches.
