Ones to watch

England

England's new captain, Kevin Pietersen, has had a stellar start to his career as skipper. In three matches against South Africa (the country of his birth); one Test and two ODIs, England have a 100% record.

'KP' is clearly relishing his role and despite concerns about how the captaincy would affect his batting, is continuing his high-scoring vein of form.

A century in the Test at The Oval was followed up by 90 runs from 82 balls in the 20-run ODI victory at Headingley. Pietersen even picked up two wickets with his part-time off-spin.

In England's crushing 10-wicket victory at Trent Bridge Pietersen could just watch his new charges wreak havoc on the Proteas - Stuart Broad's five-wicket haul was backed up by three wickets from Andrew Flintoff and two from Steven Harmison.

Opening batsmen, Ian Bell and Matt Prior then knocked off the winning runs in just 14.1 overs, as South Africa tumbled to a humiliating defeat.

South Africa

Despite their poor run of results in the one-day series it would be foolhardy to write off the side still ranked as number two in the world.

South Africa won the Test series comfortably yet one of their players who struggled in the longer form of the game, is finding his form again in the shorter form.

Jacques Kallis is one of the world's best all-rounders. He picked up the wickets of both Prior and Bell in the defeat at Headingley and knocked off 52 runs in his side's fruitless run-chase.

South Africa still have dangermen in their line-up. Despite captain Graeme Smith's struggles with an elbow injury batsmen: Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers and the big-hitting wicketkeeper, Mark Boucher have the talent to worry any international attack.

Albie Morkel, brother of fast bowler Morne who caused such devestation in the Test series, is on tour as a one-day specialist and is another batsman with the power to take the game to the bowlers.
