Gilchrist spoke to a large audience in the MCC Indoor Cricket School on Wednesday 24th June.
He followed in the footsteps of his compatriot Richie Benaud, as well as other greats from the sport and beyond such as Sunil Gavaskar, Clive Lloyd and Archbishop Desmond Tutu and became the youngest man to deliver the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.
Gilchrist retired from international cricket in 2008, but captained the Deccan Chargers to the 2009 Indian Premier League title.

The MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture was inaugurated in 2001 in memory of the late Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge, a past President of MCC.
On Wednesday his successor and one-time teammate, current MCC President Derek Underwood, welcomed ICC President David Morgan to the stage to present Cowdrey’s eldest son Chris with his father’s ICC Cricket Hall of Fame cap.
