Lord’s scoreboard replacement project
Date released: 14 January 2008
MCC are busy installing a new scoreboard and replay screen system at Lord’s Cricket Ground this winter.
Three new permanent, state-of-the-art colour LED replay screens will be situated in the Compton, Edrich and Allen Stands ready in time for the start of the 2008 cricket season.
These ‘Lighthouse’ screens are each made of 88 modules that have been specially imported from Hong Kong.

The screens can display full colour replays The screens will not only offer enhanced scoring display opportunities but also enable live and recorded video footage and full colour images to be shown during both international and domestic matches.
The new screens are also more environmentally friendly, using less energy to power them. Around one third of the power is required for all three new LED screens compared to the energy used by the pair of old bulb-based scoreboards.

John Stephenson: Keen to further improve the experience at the ‘Home of Cricket’ John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket, said: “Installing the new scoreboards fulfilled several aims for MCC.
"To improve the visibility and visual quality of scoreboard information for spectators – the new screens will have 5 times more screen resolution than the existing scoreboards, shown over 68.5m2.
"To provide the action replay and associated visual information expected at major cricket venues in 16:9 widescreen.
"Finally, to reduce significantly on-going energy consumption, materials replacement and maintenance costs associated with old technology.
"The new scoreboards are part of MCC’s ongoing investment to ensure the Ground retains its world-class status.

The work on the Lord's outfield "For example, the installation of HawkEye, the analysis suite and the ‘Supergrasse’ flooring in the Indoor School together with the quick draining outfield and improvements to the Nursery Ground have been developments in the last few years.
"Looking ahead, the planned installation of permanent floodlights will continue to enhance the experience of both spectators and players at Lord’s, ‘The Home of Cricket’."
