Maiden ton for record-breaker Atkins
Date released: 12 August 2008

Atkins celebrates her maiden England century Former Durham UCCE and MCC Young Cricketer, Caroline Atkins, smashed her first ever international century as England Women thrashed South Africa at Lord's.
Atkins was 'resident' at Lord's in 2005 and 2006, under the tutelage of MCC Young Cricketers' coach, Clive Radley.
Returning with her England team mates, Atkins would have had the advantage of being familiar with 'The Home of Cricket'.
The opening batter certainly settled quickly at the crease as England smashed records left, right and centre on their way to a resounding 225-run victory.
Record breakers
Atkins and Sarah Taylor put on 268 for the first wicket, an England record.

Atkins received the player of the match award Atkins ended on 145 (her best for England) from 155 balls as England totalled 310 - a record against South Africa.
Speaking to ECB.co.uk after the match, Atkins said: "Coming to Lord's is always special. Walking out to bat, through the Long Room, it's a privilege just to play here, but today has been amazing.
"It was an emotional moment when I got my hundred. I just jumped for joy and looked up at the dressing room to see all my team-mates clapping me. They looked thrilled. When I walked into the changing room afterwards there was a big applause.
"My family were here too which made it even more special.
"I backed myself and thought I would rather fail giving it a go than making another sluggish 30. Luckily it came off but I need to carry on with that approach."

Nicky Shaw receives her 50th cap Another player familiar to Lord's was celebrating a milestone too. Atkins' team mate, Nicky Shaw is another 'graduate' from the MCC Young Cricketers - and picked up her 50th cap in the win over South Africa.
Another former 'YC' was celebrating this week too. Steven Snell has signed a new contract with Gloucester County Cricket Club.
