MCC pays tribute to John Stephenson
Date released: 9 June 2003
MCC has paid tribute to its former Secretary, Lt. Col. John Stephenson (right), who died last week.
The MCC flag on the Grand Stand has flown at half-mast, and many Club staff will attend his funeral service, which will take place in Salisbury Cathedral on Friday 27th June.
Commenting on the sad news, Lt.-Col. Stephenson's successor as MCC Secretary, Roger Knight, said: "John was popular with MCC Members, well liked by cricket administrators around the world and respected as a fair man - thoroughly committed to the Club and to the staff at Lord's. He was passionately supportive of everything to do with MCC. He will be missed by us all. I have written - on behalf of MCC, the Committee, the Members and the staff - to express our condolences to his widow, Karen, who is very much in our thoughts".
