MCC-Wisden Photo of the Year winners

Times of India photojournalist SL Shanth Kumar has won the Wisden-MCC Photo of the Year competition for 2011 in this year's edition of the cricketing almanack.

Shanth Kumar's stunning image of children playing cricket on Marina Beach in Chennai with a storm gathering wins him a £500 cash prize and a £500 Park Cameras voucher for Canon equipment.

The picture beat off intense competition from over 330 entries to claim the prestigious award.

Runners up in the competition were Andrew Boyers (Action Images) and Morne De Klerk (Getty Images).

Boyers photographed Ravi Bopara diving towards the stumps during the England v India ODI at Lord’s on September 11 (above).

De Klerk captured Peter George from the South Australian Redbacks batting amidst all ten fielders from the Western Warriors on the last day of the Sheffield Shield match at the Adelaide Oval in October (below).

The top three winning photographs are reproduced in the colour section of the 2012 Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack and each of the eleven shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Lord’s during the 2012 season.
