6:40pm: Kevin Pietersen strikes a very different mood. His debut as captain and England are soundly beaten. It was his birthday yesterday too, poor chap, not a great present here at Lord's today.

6:37pm: Champagne all-round for the Kiwis, Styris collects his man-of-the-match award and as we told you, Tim Southee is named man-of-the-series.

6:31pm: You have to say it was a deserved win for New Zealand. Scott Styris is named as man-of-the-match, his 87 from 91 balls really put New Zealand in a strong position.

The ground staff are busy again, setting up the presentation podium in front of the Allen Stand near the Pavilion.

6:22pm 48th over: Sidebottom clips one over Ross Taylor at point - he just didn't see it, it was almost right at him, just over head height.

And that's it. James Anderson pops up another one and Jacob Oram takes a simple catch. Another wicket for Gillespie.

England 215 all out.

6:15pm 47th over: England need 58... Shah swings wildly at one from Southee, knowing he needs a whole host of boundaries - but he skies it straight to James Marshall - the sub taking another solid catch.

England 209-9

James Anderson comes out to bat and if he and Sidebottom can save the match from here, they'll both deserve a Knighthood. A thirteenth wicket for Southee in the series.

Another wide from Southee and 'Extras' have already out-scored seven of England's batting line-up. Alastair Cook's 24 is in their sights.

6:11pm 46th over: Mills having got his wickets - Mark Gillespie returns at the Pavilion End. Vettori still placing his fielders carefully, no complacency here from the Kiwis.

6:05pm 45th over: It's that man-of-the-series favourite to bowl from the Nursery End. He's already taken 12 wickets in the series - can he add a few more from the England tail?

Sidebottom gives the rather subdued England fans something to cheer with a well placed four, bisecting two fielders. A couple of wild ones from Southee and the extras from New Zealand are in danger of becoming one of England's top scorers. 200 up for England.

That last 50 runs came off 43 balls. A decent scoring rate but a little too late to help England's cause.

6:00pm 44th over: England need 82 more to win, at 12 an over. It looks beyond them now. Broad tries to conjure the miracle needed but just hoists a full toss to Daniel Flynn. Mills is delighted now - all those misfields forgotten.

England 186-8

Sidebottom walks out, Broad departs and with him probably England's last hopes of winning.

A show of hands amongst the press in the Investec Media Centre and the concensus is that Tim Southee is the man-of-the-series. You heard it here first.

5:56pm 43rd over: Southee on to bowl and he had better hope Mills doesn't have a vengeful streak if the ball heads his way.

Hit back down the ground and that brings up Shah's 50. Shah sweeps for four more. He damaged his bat with that shot though - Chris Tremlett brings him a new one.

5:51pm 42nd over: Shah wings at one it falls short of Styris and bounces clean past him, over the rope for four. Mills is unimpressed.

Another big swing this time from Broad and another misfield_ sees it go for four, Southee the culprit this time.

5:47pm 41st over: Vettori will bowl his last over. He'll feel one more wicket now will probably clinch the win with only Sidebottom and Anderson left to bat.

Jacob Oram warming up. Vettori's spell: 10 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 32 runs. Great stuff from the Black Caps captain.

5:39pm 40th over: Mills has got his first wicket. Swann gloves it and McCullum takes an excellent diving catch.

England 164-7

Stuart Broad is the next man in. He's been called the new Flintoff, who's the new Botham. Whichever he is, England are in desperate need of a Botham/Flintoff-esque innings from him now.

Broad is playing and missing at Mills. A wicket maiden. The required run-rate creeps up over 10.

5:39pm 39th over: Short from Vettori and Swann helps himself to four more. At last something for the England fans to cheer. A wide and a misfield leading to over-throw runs and the England fans are cheering again. Perhaps some much needed momentum for the home side?

5:33pm 38th over: Kyle Mills returns to the attack, from the Pavilion End this time, where Gillespie has had so much joy.

Vettori having a long chat with Mills and setting his field accordingly.

Swann gallops down the wicket and slashes at one - it should be easily fielded by Daniel Flynn who somehow manages to juggle it over the rope for four. 150 up for England.

That third set of 50 runs took 82 balls for England and, conversely to the Kiwi's innings their scoring is decelerating. Worrying times for England.

5:30pm 37th over: Shah chancing his arm against Vettori but he doesn't really have a choice. Two good twos. Shah and Vettori running into one another as the batsmen dart for a sharp single. Not a word passes between them, just backs turned on one another.

5:25pm 36th over: Vettori still has a slip in for Gillespie, showing confidence in his bowler and keeping the pressure up on England.

The required run-rate is nearly nine an over now. England just can't get away. The Kiwi bowlers have them just where they want them. The batsmen need to play their shots to get the runs but the bowling unit are just keeping it tight.

5:19pm 35th over: Vettori offers Ambrose the width and his eyes light up - but he just edges it to Marshall a simple catch at backward point.

England: 138-6

Graeme Swann the next man in. Second ball he faces and Vettori and McCullum are both bouncing up and down in an appeal - but the umpire isn't interested.

5:15pm 34th over: The bad news keeps coming for England, it's Mark Gillespie back into the attack from the Pavilion End.

The run-rate is up over eight runs. Gillespie's first ball goes clean through Ambrose just over the top of the stumps.

Shah's decided he's going to have to take this on himself - a short one from Gillespie and he clubs it for four. Good running between the wickets brings him two more.

5:10pm 33rd over: Vettori's done it again. Luke Wright stepped around it trying to hit him through the covers but a quicker ball from Vettori has the bails off again.

England 130-5

Tim Ambrose comes out to bat and it's looking grim for England, only Stuart Broad still to come who can bat usefully.

Ambrose is keen to get going, almost too keen - a sharp bit of fielding from Marshall (on as a sub) has him scampering to make his ground.

5:06pm 32nd over: Shah and Wright are eager to up the run-rate but they'll have to run well between the wickets, the bowlers are giving them nothing.

McCullum has the bails off as Styris beats Wright, but the Sussex man was still in his crease. Sharp 'keeping from McCullum though. Seven from that over - a little better for England.

5:03pm 31st over: Vettori is bowling well but Shah finally gets one he can hit - England's first for seven long overs.

5:01pm 30th over: Styris has the batsmen in trouble - Vettori flinging himself at an edge from Shah but it loops just out of his grasp.

4:58pm 29th over: Vettori has a slip in for Wright but third man is pulled in close too - a big gap there but Wright and Shah are restricted to running singles.

Any captain would be pleased with this spell, but I'm sure Vettori is too modest to congratulate himself... and too focused on this game.

4:55pm 28th over: Styris is turning the screw at the Pavilion End too, he and Vettori piling pressure on the batsmen. Shah eases the tension a little with a good two.

Brendon McCullum broke his bat playing a ball from James Anderson
Brendon McCullum's broken bat
4:52pm 27th over: How about this for a piece of the action. A great shot from the Getty photographers of Brendon McCullum's broken bat from the first innings. Another tidy, tight over from Vettori.

4:49pm 26th over: Scott Styris comes on at the Pavilion End. The run-rate is still within reach but England need someone to get set and get a big score - as Styris did for New Zealand.

4:44pm 25th over: Bopara pats one away from Vettori and that's 100 up for England.

Then Vettori flights one in that beats Bopara all ends up - his stumps in a mess and he's on his way back to the dressing room.

England: 101-4

Luke Wright is the next batsman. A familiar position for England, two batsmen at the crease, neither with many runs to their name.

4:40pm 24th over: Some welcome runs for England - Bopara playing a beautiful shot for four. Southee soon tightens up again, England move to 99.

4:33pm 23rd over: Vettori brings himself into the attack. A frugal over, as you'd expect from the spinner.

Kevin Pietersen is out, trying to force the pace
Pietersen is out - click for more photos
4:33pm 22nd over: Here's a picture of the stand-in skipper dashing at the ball which got him out. Our on the stop photographer Matt Bright is sending us lots of great snaps - click the photo to see more shots of the action.

4:29pm 21st over: Bopara is swinging and missing at Oram early in the over.

As a Middlesex player, Shah should be right at home at Lord's. As our pre-match player analysis reveals, he tends to excel at 'The Home of Cricket'.

On that subject, we hate to blown our own trumpet but... no-one else will do it for us. MCC Head of Cricket John Stephenson picked out Southee as the bowler to watch.

4:24pm 20th over: Vettori's at the bowlers' end but just chatting to Southee. Two slips in again with Bopara on strike. The Black Caps' captain rates Southee's chances of picking up another wicket.

Bopara rates his chances of a few runs - he clips Southee through the leg side for four.

Pietersen tries to pick up his own pace but slahes it to backward point. A great catch from Oram and another victim for Southee.

England: 86-3

Owais Shah the next man in for England. Shah and Bopara forged a great partnership at The Oval. England could do with a repeat of that here.

4:20pm 19th over: Vettori is tossing little spinners to himself - you wonder how long it will be before the skipper brings himself on for a bowl. He'll have been heartened by Graeme Swann's good spin bowling.

The Mexican wave dies in its infancy - but not before the 'traditional' boos for the Members' stands not joining in.

4:16pm 18th over: Bopara's at it again - hitting Southee smoothly back down the ground for four. Appreciative applause from the MCC Members in the Pavilion.

A very half-hearted Mexican wave starts to work its way around Lord's.

4:14pm: Drinks break time again. The broom and paintbrush out from the ground staff. It's Chris Tremlett with the bag of drinks for the batsmen this time, Jeetan Patel the water carrier for New Zealand.

4:10pm 17th over: England's run-rate is dropping back towards four the required run-rate sneaking up towards six. That's what wickets do for the bowling team.

Pietersen is standing well out of his crease to Oram, trying to confuse the veteran bowlers' length.

Bopara is pouncing on anything loose. Oram offers a fraction of width and the Essex man hits it square for four more.

4:05pm 16th over: Pietersen is starting to settle but both batsmen are still struggling against Southee. Some real bounce for the bowler has Bopara swinging at a wide one but missing by a good foot or so.

The one loose ball of the over is the last one and Bopara jumps on it eagerly, hitting it for four.

4:01pm 15th over: Pietersen and Bopara both looking to settle in now, neither batsmen is set yet.

3:56pm 14th over: Tim Southee comes on for Gillespie. The young quick bowler has taken the most wickets in the series so far - and he keeps his momentum up! Second ball has Cook edging it to McCullum. Out. Eleven wickets in the series now for Southee - so far.

England: 80-2

Ravi Bopara takes the famous walk through the Long Room, crossing Cook on the way.

3:51pm 13th over: Just the one slip now for Cook and it's clearly the bowlers Vettori is changing the field for, rather than the batsmen. No slips now but a circle of seven fielders inside the ring, four on the leg side.

Pietersen dabs one back to Oram and the burly bowler throws at the stumps with Pietersen taking evasive action. "Ooooohs!" from the full-house at Lord's.

3:45pm 12th over: Gillespite finally gets the breakthroug his bowling deserves. Ian Bell caught shuffling across the line and finally the umpire's finger goes up. Bell's out.

England 53-1

That brings out the skipper - Kevin Pietersen in his first match as captain of England. He will be desperate to get a big score. First ball faced... is aborted - Pietersen walks away just as Gillespie reaches his delivery stride. A few words between batsman and bowler.

Finally Gillespie gets the first ball at the captain and it's a snorter. Pietersen pushes at it tentatively and it beats the edge. Two balls later and he beats the edge again - this is a great spell of bowling from Mark Gillespie. Vettori's backing him still with two slips.

3:41pm 11th over: Vettori has seen enough of Mills - his first overs have gone for 31 runs. Jacob Oram brought on at the Nursery End, hoping to plug the leak of runs at that end.

Cook runs Oram away for four to bring Fifty up for England.

Ian Bell started well for England, especially enjoying the bowling of Kyle Mills
Bell: Starting England's innings well
3:36pm 10th over: Vettori still has two slips in for Cook, clearly feeling he is the weaker of the two batsmen at the moment. Then again, perhaps it's more a testament to the more accurate bowling of Gillespie from the Pavilion End.

3:33pm 9th over: No such luck for Mills - Bell hits him for another four. Vettori's got a short-leg in for Bell now but only one slip. Bell is still finding gaps in the covers though - another four.

The Lord's banner flies over the Investec Media Centre
The Investec Media Centre
3:32pm: Another stat from our scorer here in the Investec Media Centre. There have only been four scoring strokes in Gillespie's first four overs.

3:29pm 8th over: The run-rate is still around five, just under. The required run-rate, still just over five. England will be happy with that, for now.

Still two slips in, Taylor and Styris. Taylor's former mentor, Clive Radley rated him as a great slip catcher in his player analysis.

3:25pm 7th over: Bell is happy to keep the runs coming, dropping the ball into the on side for a quick single. A misfield from the skipper, Vettori, gives Cook an easy single too. More singles from the over and these two are going well.

3:19pm 6th over: A no-ball called against Gillespie means a free hit for Bell. He swings everything at it and gets an inside edge, all the way down past third man for four. Nowhere near where he meant it to go, but he won't mind too much about that.

3:16pm 5th over: Cook adds another boundary to the score off Mills. A long but ultimately fruitless chase for the fielder.

3:12pm 4th over: A big appeal from Gillespie for LBW against Bell - but once again the umpire is unmoved. Another appeal against Bell, but it's caught the pad and run away for four leg byes.

3:08pm 3rd over: England's run-rate is 4.5 from those first two overs. They'll need to up it to 5.4 to match the required run-rate.

Daniel Vettori has two slips in and is prowling around the field himself, talking to his fielders. Mills offers up a wide one though and Cook cuts it for four.

3:05pm 2nd over: Mark Gillespie the other opening bowler. A decent first over for Gillespie - just the one wide from it. Cook starting far more tentatively than Bell.

3:03pm 1st over: Players are back on the field. It's Alastair Cook and Ian Bell opening for England. Kyle Mills opening the bowling.

Bell is starting like he's got an appointment to keep this afternoon, he's in a hurry to chase the 267 runs England neeed to win. Two boundaries and it's eight off the first over.

2:38pm: Got any interesting cricketing facts? Or a cricketing question you've always wanted answered? Let us know: Email us your views, thoughts, questions and comments: Live@Lords.org.

2:36pm: Another Pietersen fact for you. Did you also know he was born in Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. Kevin Peter Pietersen, from Pietermaritzburg. A theme is developing, no?

2:33pm: As the marching band and England Women's team walk in opposite directions around the ground, to entertain the crowd at Lord's - we'll entertain you online.

It's time for a few stats about England's new skipper, Kevin Pietersen.

Did you know that his middle name is Peter?

2:23pm: Well, the stat-fans here in the Investec Media Centre tell me England are in with more than a shout. Fifteen times a team has had to chase 260+ here at Lord's in one-day internationals and eight times they've suceeded.

What do you think? Who has the upper hand? Email us your views, thoughts, questions and comments: Live@Lords.org.

2:20pm: The players all trot off, the Black Caps looking by far the happier. A quick lunch break and England will be back, chasing 266 to save the series.

New Zealand 266-5

2:15pm 50th over: Broad will bowl the last over. Elliot in on the act, hitting a boundary. Last ball will be to Scott Styris... brace yourselves... it's not pretty, but it is four. A great innings from Styris.

2:09pm 49th over: Sidebottom bowling the penultimate over. Good running from the batsmen, the Kiwis look very happy. Lots of clapping on the away team's balcony - folded arms and frowns on England's.

Wow - the biggest six so far from Styris. Top deck again - but in the three tier Grand Stand! 250 up for New Zealand - that fifty from 39 balls since you asked.

2:05pm 48th over: This will be Anderson's last over of the game. Styris keeps the scorers busy with a well played four.

Another big hit from Styris, short and and wide from Anderson and Styris punishes it fully - six.

2:01pm 47th over: Ryan Sidebottom returns at the Nursery End, having a long chat with Pietersen again.

Elliot vs Sidebottom and I think it's safe to say they'll both be careful running between the wickets now. First blood to Elliot, he hits Sidebottom back down the ground for six. More pep talks from Pietersen.

1:55pm 46th over: James Anderson back into the attack - and he has Elliot well and truly beaten with the first ball of the over. Second ball, Elliot joyfully runs a single to get off strike. Styris is at it too though! Going for a big hoik and missing the ball entirely.

Carbon copy on the next ball, but Styris gets it in the middle of the bat - six runs. Styris 50.

1:52pm 45th over: Broad's in all the action now - coming back on to bowl from the Nursery End.

Another gem from our scorer - the Styris/Oram partnership brought 77 runs from 77 balls. Impressive.

1:47pm 44th over: As you may expect, the full-time spinner, Swann is making a better fist of things. Oram tries to hit him for six more... but only hits it right down the throat of the fielder, Broad. Out!

New Zealand: 201-5

Grant Elliot is next in - the man at the centre of the run-out controversy at The Oval.

1:43pm 43rd over: Cries of "Catch!" on the second ball, but the only person to catch that is in the Compton Stand. Six.

Fourth ball and he's gone again - top deck of the Compton Stand this time! Six more! Oram: 50.

That's probably the last we'll see of Shah - 17 runs from that over. 200 up for New Zealand. The last fifty runs - from just 40 balls. Mostly thanks to Jacob Oram.

1:40pm 42nd over: Oram's trying to force the pace now - but picks out the fielders and not the rope early in the over. It's Styris crossing his arms now but with the same result - he has an ugly swing and miss.

1:36pm 41st over: 10 overs left in New Zealand's innings now - we're getting to the business end of things. Shah continues from the Nursery End - and Oram hits him, first ball, for four. Fifty partnership.

Nine from the over - a little more healthy for the Kiwis.

1:32pm 40th over: Spin at both ends now with Swann and Shah. I wonder if Pietersen might fancy bowling himself? He picked up three Middlesex wickets for Hampshire in the Twenty20 Cup not long ago.

The England team are celebrating! They think they've caught Styris out of his ground! Styris is standing there and the appeal goes to the third umpire.

"Not out" is the verdict on the lovely new digital scoreboards here at Lord's. Styris had his foot in his ground... just.

1:30pm 39th over: A gamble from Pietersen. Owais Shah comes in to bowl his part-time off-spin from the Nursery End. With the big-hitting Oram at the crease, this could go horribly wrong for England.

Of course, if Shah gets a wicket, Pietersen's a genius...

Perhaps the stand-in skipper has an eye on the over-rate. He doesn't want to get himself banned too and Shah is farily galloping through this over.

1:26pm 38th over: All change again - Graeme Swann back on at the Pavilion End.

Oram gets a touch of the Pietersens - crossing his arms and trying to sweep Swann. He gets it wrong and might think again before he thinks about batting right-handed!

1:22pm 37th over: More bowling changes from Pietersen. Luke Wright back into the attack in place of Sidebottom at the Nursery End.

Width offered by Wright and Styris happily accepts the offer to cut it away for four. 150 up for New Zealand.

More updates from our scorer - that last 50 runs came from only 60 balls. The Kiwis are definitely accelerating the scoring now - Oram clouts Wright back down the ground for six!

1:17pm 36th over: The busiest men in the ground? The Pavilion stewards at the moment, sliding the sight screen back and forth as the left-handed and right-handed batting pair change ends. More easy singles.

1:14pm 35th over: The Kiwis are obviously refreshed by their drink. They're running quickly between the wickets. Both Oram and Styris easing Sidebottom into the off side, seemingly at will.

Swann's back in the field by the way, stood at point, looking more 'comfortable' now.

1:13pm: The match looks finely poised at the moment. What do you think? Send us your views, questions and comments: Live@Lords.org.

1:11pm: A drinks break for the players here at Lord's. The ground staff scamper on to repaint the crease.

It's Michael Mason doing the 12th man duties for New Zealand, bringing the batsmen a drink. Dimi Mascherenas doing the honours for England.

1:05pm 34th over: Indeed, Broad comes on at the Pavilion End - as Graeme Swann trots up the Pavilion steps, presumably for a 'comfort break'.

Oram is one of the many Kiwis who have struggled with injuries on the tour - he's dipping, bending and flexing between deliveries.

It's clearly working, he places one through the field finding the boundary for four.

1:01pm 33rd over: Bopara didn't last long. Pietersen brings in Ryan Sidebottom. By his own admission, Oram has struggled against the Nottinghamshire left-armer. It should be a good clash.

It doesn't look like either batsman wants to face Sidebottom - they're both running quick singles, looking to avoid the strike perhaps?

Broad is the next bowler warming up, bizzarely with his back to the wicket at third man - I hope a catch doesn't head his way!

12:55pm 32nd over: Great delivery from Swann - he squares Flynn up and he loses his middle stump - clean bowled. Good timing from Swann, those two batsmen were forming a good partnership.

New Zealand: 124-4

Jacob Oram is next in. Two experienced heads at the crease for New Zealand now. England will be keen to remove them quickly.

12:52pm 31st over: It's Bopara coming on at the Nursery End.

A wristy flick from Flynn races away for four through mid on. Fifty partnership.

12:48pm 30th over: Swann still at the Pavilion End but both Sidebottom and Ravi Bopara are going through some arm-swinging warm-ups. Whether that's at Pietersen's request, or as a hint to their new captain, time will tell.

12:45pm 29th over: More stoic singles from the Black Caps.

12:41pm 28th over: More half-chances for England - all missed. Ian Bell has a dive at a short one but it drops short of him. Ravi Bopara then has a shy at the stumps - but the batsmen are through for a good single.

null
The iconic Investec Media Centre at Lord's
12:40pm: The scorer we have up here in the Media Centre is a helpful chap. He keeps everyone up to date on the exact stats. He tells me New Zealand are accelerating, slowly. Their first fifty came from 83 balls - the second 50 runs from just 78.

12:38pm 27th over: Flynn is pulling at Wright - he doesn't quite catch it fully, but that's 100 up for New Zealand.

A streaky one from Styris, somehow squeezes through. They run three but Styris is puffing his cheeks out - he certainly didn't mean that one.

12:34pm 26th over: Another dropped catch. Styris is looking to hit Swann around a bit but clips one... Ravi Bopara is at full stretch but can only get fingers to the ball and the chance is gone.

12:31pm 25th over: We're at half-way in New Zealand's innings. Another good over from Wright but the scoreboard still ticking over nicely for the Kiwis.

12:27pm 24th over: Neat and tidy from both sides - Swann tucks Flynn up early on, but the batsmen are happy running quick singles.

12:23pm 23rd over: Flynn settling in a bit now and plays a great shot which beats Cook's despairing dive at the rope.

12:19pm 22nd over: All change for England - Graeme Swann on at the Pavilion End. Ambrose is stood up to the stumps, a short mid off and a short mid on for Styris.

12:16pm 21st over: Luke Wright comes in for Anderson from the Nursery End.

Wright has a good shout for LBW, turned down and then has two that go right through Daniel Flynn - missing everything, just.

12:12pm 20th over: The last over of this power play - it's Broad again. All 'front line' bowlers from England so far. With no Collingwood, who will bowl the extra overs for England?

A maiden from Broad - the first maiden of the day.

12:06pm 19th over: McCullum's gone! Graeme Swann taking a solid catch from Anderson's bowling. Anderson's first wicket and it's a big one - McCullum is a real danger-man. Correction: was a real danger-man.

Pietersen's tinkering with his field, bringing in two slips and a gully for the new man, Flynn - and from the penultimate ball of the over, Flynn edges one just wide of gully. The gully fielder? Pietersen himself.

New Zealand: 71-3

12:04pm 18th over: A great shot from Syris and that's the first proper, flowing boundary of his innings.

Brendon McCullum made a good start for the Black Caps
McCullum: batting with his usual confidence
12:00pm 17th over: Broad opens with a bouncer to McCullum, who's ducking and wafting his bat.

11:54am 16th over: Whoops-a-daisy. McCullum's going to need a new bat. He chops at that one from Anderson and the ball chops his bat into two very unhealthy looking parts. That's the end of that bat.

Ever the professional, McCullum completes a quick single - without his bat.

11:47am 15th over: Anderson still looking for his perfect line - but Pietersen's backing him against Styris, with a fairly attacking field: a slip and a gully.

It's a beautifully sunny day here at Lord's - the pitch is dry as a bone. So is Graeme Swann apparently, signalling to England's 12th man that he's after a drink. Andrew Strauss is the man with the Red Bull cooler.

11:41am 14th over: Gone! Edge from Taylor and Ambrose is the most relieved man in the Ground to see that one safely into his gloves. A second victim for Broad.

It seems our expert was right. Clive Radley ran the rule over Ross Taylor saying the way to get him was early on, with a straightish ball. Exactly what Broad did. I wonder if he reads the Lords.org website?

New Zealand: 54-2

Scott Styris the new man in.
11:36am 13th over: Anderson's back in the attack, from the Nursery End this time.

Fifty up for New Zealand.

McCullum gets himself in an awful tangle. An thick edge and he's stumbling down the wicket - but it's safe.

11:32am 12th over: More good fielding from Sidebottom, a sharp pick up and throw. Arguably Sidebottom is England's best fielder at the moment!

11:28am 11th over: The first power play of the day in this over. Still two slips (Cook and Swann) but Bell, Bopara, Shah and Luke Wright now all inside the circle.

11:27am: Great stuff from Broad and a very pleasing first bowling change for new captain, Pietersen.

11:22am 10th over: Stuart Broad comes into the attack for Anderson. First ball is a loose one and How happily top edges that for four. Not exactly fluid, but it's the first boundary off the bat today.

A big hit, in the air again... it's James Anderson underneath it... but he's over the rope, with the ball too. A big six for How.

And gone - How's out next ball, edging one to Ravi Bopara! A breakthrough for Stuart Broad from his fourth ball.

New Zealand: 39-1

11:18am 9th over: More tight stuff from Sidebottom. This is just how Pietersen would have planned it - tight from Sidebottom with Anderson taking the wickets - but who can account for dropped catches?

11:14am 8th over: Anderson has to pick himself up to go again after that miss. He, like everyone in the ground, though How was out. Now, starting the next over, he's got the opener facing him still.

A mis-field from Pietersen, doing his 'falling tree' as pointed out by MCC's Clive Radley in his player analysis.

11:11am 7th over: Pietersen is clapping and trying to gee up his side after that howling dropped catch.

Sidebottom has another LBW appeal against McCullum - another one's that turned down.

11:06am 6th over: Pietersen has another long chat with Anderson before this over.

Second ball is a bouncer, which McCullum ducks under quite easily. I wonder if that's what Pietersen's chat was about?

Ian Bell is sneaking in from the edge of the circle to almost short-leg as each ball is bowled.

In the air from How! Way, way in the air! Ambrose is after it, with the gloves on, he must catch it... no! It's dropped! Anderson's head is in his hands.

11:02am 5th over: Big swing from Sidebottom matched by the LBW appeal against McCullum - but still no joy. A bit of bat on that one I think.

McCullum looks to be troubled by Sidebottom now - will Pietersen bring in more catchers? Two slips (Cook and Swann) at the moment, the rest around the circle.

A good over - it's starting to get a bit more interesting now.

10:57am 4th over: McCullum pushes one down to third man for two, before Anderson finds some more swing later in the over.

How squirts another one down to third man and Sidebottom is having to do almost as much fielding as he is bowling!

Seven from that over as England bowlers struggle to find the right line.

10:52am 3rd over: Pietersen seems to be enjoying his captaincy role. He's positioned himself at mid-off and is having a good chat with both bowlers before, during and after each over.

Sidebottom drifts down the leg side and McCullum darts out of the way for four leg byes.

10:49am 2nd over: James Anderson will bowl from the Pavilion End. The famous Lord's slope should help him swing it in to the right-handed batsmen.

A good over from Anderson. Just one from it - and some definite movement for him too.

10:43am 1st over: The teams are out to a warm reception at Lord's. Jamie How and big-hitting Brendon McCullum to open the batting.

Ryan Sidebottom will open up from the Nursery End for England.

A big appeal for LBW from Sidebottom on the fifth ball of the over, against McCullum. Nothing doing. Sidebottom really bends his back on the last ball - but slings it wide. Two from the over.

10:35am: The teams (to the left) are our best guess at which order they'll bat in. Of course, things can change depending on the circumstances, but that should be the order in which they emerge from The Pavilion to bat.

10:32am: The pitch is a complete contrast to how busy it was a few moments ago. The only people down there now are the media. The TMS team, including Phil Tuffnel and Alec Stewart - and the Sky TV crew featuring David Gower and Sir Ian Botham.

10:26am: More whispers in the Media Centre. Word is Cook will open the batting with Ian Bell, with Luke Wright moving down the order.

10:17am: A good start for Kevin Pietersen as captain - he's won the toss. He's going to put the Kiwis in to bat.

10:15am: Team news in: New Zealand are unchanged - Elliot obviously deemed to be fit enough - Kyle Mills passing a late fitness test too. England make one change: Alastair Cook in for the banned Paul Collingwood.

The iconic Investec Media Centre at Lord's
10:07am: The Investec Media Centre here at Lord's is where we're reporting from - none of the watching it on TV that other websites use for their 'live' updates. You're getting the action as it happens live from 'The Home of Cricket' here.

The Media Centre is already a hive of activity. The Test Match Special team are already installed and the press and TV journalists are beavering away and/or drinking coffee.

It really is a great view up here. You can visit the Media Centre yourself, on non-match days, on a Tour of Lord's.

10:03am: There's no official team news yet but Ian Bell looked to have recovered from his leg injury, when he played at The Oval.

For the Kiwis there are doubts of Grant Elliot, injured in that controversial run-out at The Oval. The whispers are if he doesn't make it, the Black Caps will go for another batsman in their line-up.

The view from the Pavilion End at Lord's
9:59am: The pitch at Lord's is a riot of activity. Both teams are out warming up with what looks like a platoon of players and coaches, never mind a squad.

Groundsman Mick Hunt has the roller on the square and there are orange vested stewards and cameramen everywhere.

The Ground is already filling up and the atmosphere is tense and excited.

9:23am: Welcome to Lord's on a glorious sunny morning. If you haven't got a ticket for this one, it's too late now - it is going to be a full-house here at 'The Home of Cricket'.

With Paul Collingwood suspended Kevin Pietersen is going to be England's stand-in captain. He's going to have to get a win in his debut as skipper if England are to save the series. The Black Caps have a 2-1 series lead.
