6:16pm Yes, that's it for the day. Official word comes in. West Indies close the day on 39-2, still 186 runs behind.

West Indies close on 39-2

6:14pm For those that don't "speak cricket" by "offering the light" it means that the umpires feel the light is poor enough to stop play but the batsmen may, if they wish, continue to play.

It's not the batsmen that decide the light is bad (that's the umpires' job) but they may override that decision if, for instance, the batting team are within sight of victory.

The relevant Law of Cricket is Law 3 - if you fancy something else to read whilst we wait to see if this is the close of play today.

Lords.org commentary icon - Bad light6:11pm The umpires consult and offer the light to the batsmen, who gladly walk off.

Will that be it for the day?

6:07pm 13th over: The umpire's have their light-meters out and it can be no coincidence that Graeme Swann comes on to bowl, as England look to keep their good form going.

6:04pm 12th over: Saffell's off again, Bresnan's back and it looks like the Yorkshire seamer to bowl the next over.

Onions has set the example for debutants - Bresnan will be eager to get in on the act.

5:59pm 11th over: MCC Young Cricketer Oliver Saffell comes on as a sub fielder. It looks like Bresnan who has headed off for a "comfort break".

Saffell's fielding at cover - a position the bowler, Anderson, excels at. No pressure on the 22-year-old!

5:55pm 10th over: Smith and Simmons look happy to hang on for now - which is just what the West Indies need at the moment, a bit of stability.

5:51pm 9th over: Another great photo this: Ramnaresh Sarwan is looking skywards, waiting for his bails to fall to earth, after playing on to Anderson.

5:46pm 8th over: Two wickets down and the West Indies are still more than 200 runs behind England's first innings total.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourSimmons brings the total four runs closer with a good shot off his pads.

5:42pm 7th over: A good relay team chase down to the boundary by Bresnan and Bopara saves a boundary.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman outSarwan's stumps are in a mess as he chops that ball from Anderson onto his own wicket.

West Indies 22-2 - Sarwan b. Anderson - 1

Two wickets in his four overs of this innings for Anderson. He's determined not to be outshone by Onions and Swann.

5:41pm You're all very quiet on the email today. Are there really no England fans out there who want to crow about this? Or are you all too scarred from too many dashed hopes?

Send us your emails.

5:35pm 6th over: In the first innings Broad had Sarwan caught behind by Prior - he'd love to repeat that here. A single for Smith puts Sarwan on strike.

A loud appeal from Broad for LBW against Smith - but it's umpire Davis's finger that remains firmly in pocket this time. An inside edge saved Smith.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out for a duck (no runs)5:29pm 5th over: Welcome to the match Jimmy! James Anderson has Gayle caught in the slips by Swann for nought. An ugly duck for the skipper.

West Indies 14-1 - Gayle c. Swann b. Anderson - 0

Who said Gayle would be fine after his late arrival from the IPL?

Anderson wants Sarwan's wicket now! Prior's tossing a "catch" in the air - but umpire Da Silva's hand goes into his pocket, not in the air.

Next ball and Sarwan's on his backside avoiding that one from Anderson - great stuff from the Lancashire quick.

5:25pm 4th over: Caught in two minds, Smith's swatting and ducking at another quick one from Broad.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four5:21pm 3rd over: Smith gets the first boundary of the innings with a well-placed shot off Anderson's bowling.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourFour leg-byes, make Anderson frown - not helped by another boundary by Smith - an ugly start to Anderson's first spell of this innings.

5:16pm 2nd over: Stuart Broad will bowl from the Nursery End. First runs of the innings, one for Devon Smith.

5:12pm 1st over: Anderson must want to join the "Onions and Swann Show". As for the other debutant Tim Bresnan, he's barely been in the game so far!

Anderson has one climbing up at Gayle and even Prior has to leap to field it, stood well back from the stumps.

5:11pm No great surprise - it's the follow-on. England trot out to field again: James Anderson warming up at the Pavilion End. Gayle and Smith must have a feeling of de ja vu - as they prepare to open the West Indies innings for the second time today.

They start 225 runs behind.

Graham Onions lies, celebrating on the pitch as he gets Ramdin LBW

5:09pm Whilst we wait to see if England enforce the follow on, why not enjoy some of the great pictures of the West Indies innings - like this one of a flat out, over-joyed Graham Onions.

5:07pm If you were one of the lucky ones who turned up after tea, on a late gate ticket - what a session to come to! Six wickets and England on top. Not bad for £15 - even better for those freebie under-16s!

Keep a keen eye on Lords.org for all the latest ticket news for subsequent days and indeed matches.

4:59pm Every person able to stand is on their feet for Graham Onions. After an inauspicious start (his first ball in Test cricket was hit for four) what an astonishing debut for Onions. Five wickets. Brilliant.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out4:55pm 33rd over: A short break in play as the West Indies' 12th man brings out a chest guard for Lionel Baker.

End of the innings and five wickets for Graham Onions on debut! Baker bang in front of his stumps - an easy LBW decision for the umpire, nodding as he raises the finger.

West Indies 152 all out - Baker LBW b. Onions - 17

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four4:49pm 32nd over: Baker brings up 150 for West Indies with a boundary.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four4:45pm 31st over: A boundary for Baker eases the pressure for the West Indies, momentarily.

4:40pm 30th over: Sunshine again at Lord's - at last. All things are rosy for England at the moment.

It's not quite the humbling all-out for 51 which England suffered in the Caribbean but if England can make the West Indies follow-on here, it will go some way towards the "revenge" Andrew Strauss spoke of.

Some hilarious fielding from England there. A short ball and the batsmen ran a suicide run... the first throw at the stumps misses and Broad, seemingly, has all the time in the world to complete the run out... but drops the ball. Cook tries to rescue things but his desperate dive and throw results in an over-throw run.

With his head in his hands, even Strauss is laughing.

Friday's ticket news

Fresh from the Lord's Ticket Office: Friday's ticket news. At this rate you could be here to witness an England victory inside three days!

4:35pm 29th over: Onions still on at the Nursery End as England look to finish things off.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourEdwards is determined to enjoy himself, he hooks Onions for four. Last ball of the over and Edwards has a big swing again... and completely misses it.

4:32pm 28th over: Broad bowling this over.

Onions should be very rightly pleased with himself. Windies captain Chris Gayle who, when asked about the debutant, said: "I not even taste Onion" must be well aware of Graham OnionS now.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out4:25pm 27th over: Onions tucks Ramdin up and hits him plumb in front - LBW. He's so keen to turn around an appeal he falls over in his celebration - and is mobbed by his team-mates as he lies on the pitch and the umpire's finger goes up.

West Indies 128-9 - Ramdin LBW. b. Onions - 5

Four slips, a short-leg and a gully - England are not planning on this taking long.

There's another chance - Baker swings hard and the balls flies through the outstretched fingers of Paul Collingwood in the slips.

4:24pm That talk about the follow-on earlier may not have been misplaced after all. The West Indies are still over 50-runs short of the 177 they need to avoid that.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on4:20pm 26th over: Andrew Strauss has seen enough of the West Indies tail's struggle with pace - Stuart Broad comes on at the Pavilion End.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourAlmost immediately a chance: Ramdin edging one through the gap between gully and third slip.

A six man cordon for Edwards - talk about pressure. He flashes at it and flashes hard - and is rewarded with a four.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out4:09pm 25th over: And a debut wicket for Onions now too! Strauss takes the catch this time and the Durham debutant is absolutely delighted - punching the air!

West Indies 117-6 - Simmons c. Strauss b. Onions - 16

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out for a duck (no runs)Another one for Onions! Taylor wafts aimlessly at that one and Prior takes the tumbling catch behind the stumps, down the leg-side this time.

West Indies 117-7 - Taylor c. Prior b. Onions - 0

Benn's carried and not worn his helmet and arm-guards out to bat - looks like he wasn't quite ready. Hardly surprising - three wickets in four balls for England. This is really the "foot on the throat" stuff that England coaches and captains have talked about in the past.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman outGoodness me, Onions has a third wicket in this over. Benn scores a streaky two but then wobbles at one and a thick edge finds Swann (who else?) at third slip.

West Indies 119-8 - Benn c. Swann b. Onions - 2

Onions gets a standing ovation from everyone at the Nursery End of the Ground as he trots down to field at long leg. He waves his cap to the crowd - he must be loving this. What a debut!

4:04pm 24th over: Four men around the bat as Swann bowls to Nash: Bopara and Cook at silly point and short leg respectively, Collingwood at slip and the wicketkeeper Prior of course.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman outAnother wicket for Swann! That man at slip, Collingwood, tumbles to his left and takes a great catch.

West Indies 117-4 - Nash c. Collingwood b. Swann - 4

4:00pm 23rd over: Onions gets the better of Simmons not once but twice, the Durham bowler finally warming to his task as a Test bowler - still no sign of the other debutant, Tim Bresnan, getting to bowl, yet.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, six3:57pm 22nd over: Pow! After hitting the first six of the match earlier, Swann is hit for six by Simmons.

3:52pm 21st over: The players are back and it's Onions continuing from the Nursery End. Simmons soon brings up the 100 for West Indies.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourNash is off the dreaded nought, with a four.

Graeme Swann celebrates taking two wickets in two balls
Graeme Swann jumps for joy

3:46pm Our pitch-side snapper is at it again with this great photo of a jubilant Graeme Swann celebrating Chanderpaul's wicket.

3:42pm England lead by 276, meaning the West Indies are still 76-runs from the follow-on target. Not that I want to curse things as I did for Chanderpaul (see below) but purely for your information.

Representing MCC, Guardians of the Laws of Cricket, I feel it's appropriate to bring Law 13 (the follow-on) to your attention.

3:35pm What a magical few minutes for England. The West Indies looked in decent shape, Smith was moving almost unnoticed to a half-century with just two wickets down. Suddenly they're 99-4 and the batsman longest at the crease (Simmons) has just six runs to his name.

Who are your early contenders for man-of-the-match? Send us an email.

Ravi Bopara's an obvious contender as is Fidel Edwards - but Graeme Swann's coming up on the rails today: 63 not out with the bat and two wickets in two balls to put a big dent in the Windies' top order. Who'd get your vote? Send us your views.

Lords.org live text commentary icon - tea3:31pm The umpires have concerns about the light and we're taking an early tea. West Indies 99-4.

3:30pm The hattrick icon stays unused once more. A great over from Swann (a two wicket maiden); a great bowling change by Strauss and England are on top now.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on3:24pm 20th over: Swann returns to the attack, replacing Anderson at the Pavilion End.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman outOh and he's bowled Smith! Bounce and turn for the spinner, a great delivery.

West Indies 99-3 - Smith b. Swann - 46

That nearly ruined our icon plans there - we were warming up the "50" for Smith. Instead it's "Out" for Smith and great news for England.

The bad news is the new batsman in is Shivnarive Chanderpaul, one of the world's best and a hard man to get out at the best of times.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out for a duck (no runs)That put the mockers on Chanderpaul - he's out first ball! More turn for Swann has "Shiv" playing across it and Collingwood snags the catch at slip!

West Indies 99-4 - Chanderpaul c. Collingwood b. Swann - 0

It might be a debut for that "hattrick" icon after all - Swann's after three-in-three. Five men around the bat ('keeper; two slips; short leg and a silly point).

3:20pm 19th over: A slightly better over from Onions too who seems to be finding his length at last.

A consistent breeze across Lord's now - blowing from the Grace Gate to the North Gate for those of you who know Lord's - blowing from the south-west for those that don't.

3:19pm The tea interval and those late gate tickets just over 20 minutes away. Live/work nearby? Come down to Lord's.

3:14pm 18th over: A better over from Anderson there. Neat and tidy.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four3:11pm 17th over: Smith helps himself to four more, straight down the ground as Onions is taking time to find his feet in his first spell as a Test Match bowler.

3:10pm An interesting sub-plot. Kevin Pietersen was just putting on some sort of knee pad under his trouser-leg. He's not fielding close in (stood at square leg) - is he carrying an injury?

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four3:06pm 16th over: Anderson's not having a great time of it - perhaps he's still a little groggy after being struck whilst batting. Smith takes him for four more runs.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on3:01pm 15th over: Here comes the debutant. Graham Onions replaces the wicket-taking Broad at the Nursery End.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourWelcome to Test cricket says Devon Smith - as he hooks Onions's first ball for four runs. Out first ball when batting and hit for four first ball when bowling? Not a great start for Onions' Test career.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:55pm 14th over: Four runs for Smith as he places a loose one from Anderson through the covers - it runs down the famous Lord's slope all the way to the rope.

Anderson has one jagging back at Simmons and appeals for LBW as it raps him on the pads - but moved too much and looked to be going down the leg side.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out2:48pm 13th over: Broad's got a second wicket. Sarwan playing at one he really needn't have and Prior takes an easy catch behind.

West Indies 70-2 - Sarwan c. Prior b. Broad - 13

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:46pm 12th over: A boundary to Smith's total as he nicks Anderson all the way down to the third man boundary.

2:45pm Less than an hour until those late gate tickets go on sale at the North Gate. £15 for most of you, free if you're under 16. Come down to Lord's for some cricket.

2:41pm 11th over: Confusing weather conditions out there - summed up by the two team flags (one above each dressing room at opposite ends of the Pavilion) which are blowing in opposite directions. "Swirling" is perhaps the best word for the wind around Lord's.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:36pm 10th over: Sarwan's looking assured and settled already - four more into the leg side.

2:29pm 9th over: Broad has a hand half up in appeal there but Smith got bat, not boot, on that one.

Another close one from Broad as he squares Gayle up but the Windies skipper pulls the bat out of the way in time.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman outGot him that time! Gayle plays on and Broad has his reward at last.

West Indies 46-1 - Gayle b. Broad - 28

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourA good start for Sarwan - he drives that one from Broad for four - straight in and straight off the mark in impressive style.

Fifty up for West Indies in just 54 balls - they're batting like it's a one-dayer.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:24pm 8th over: Gayle finds a gap - and that's four. Some early promise for England but other than that vigorous appeal from Broad, no genuine chances.

How do you think it's going? Send us your emails - how quickly do England need a breakthrough to make it count? When would you bring on one of the debutant bowlers?

2:20pm 7th over: The same close field for Broad's bowling: three slips (Strauss, Collingwood and Swann) and a gully (Bresnan).

Broad is really troubling the batsmen with his pace - that's the third or fourth time he's got it clean through their defences - an edge or a glove and he'd be taking wickets. Vice-captain Alastair Cook (at mid off) gives Broad some encouragement between balls.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on2:15pm 6th over: Once again the spin-experiment is short-lived. James Anderson replaces Swann at the Pavilion End.

Three slips and a gully in place.

2:11pm 5th over: Broad's celebrating! He's made it as far as the slips - but Gayle just leans on his bat, unmoved.

Broad thinks Prior took a catch behind but Gayle says he didn't touch it and the TV replays show it was a good decision by the umpire - Asoka da Silva standing at the Nursery End.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourGayle hits the next two balls for successive fours, to rub salt into Broad's wounds.

Broad's fired up now and more zip and movement hits Gayle on the thigh pad. A quick rub of the sore spot from Gayle.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:08pm 4th over: Smith joins in now, getting off the mark by pushing Swann back past the bowler for four. More runs, to the opposite end of the Ground - it glances past Prior for four byes.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four2:03pm 3rd over: First boundary of the innings as Gayle cuts Broad past point for four.

Gayle gets himself in a "yes, no, sorry!" mix-up as Smith sends him back when half-way down the wicket. Broad shies at his stumps - narrowly missing. TV replays show he'd have been safe, even if Broad had hit the stumps.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourGayle's not easily flustered though - he hits the next ball for four.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourBroad offers height and a bit of width and Gayle gladly accepts another boundary chance, as he gallops to 14 runs already, 100% of the total scored so far.

1:59pm 2nd over: The second surprise of the day and the second involving a spinner. England's opening bowler from the Pavilion End? Half-century man, Graeme Swann.

Swann's getting some turn - Gayle plays and misses at that one and Prior has the bails off, but Gayle was still well inside his crease.

Short leg, a silly point and a slip in place - you cannot say England aren't being inventive, opening with a spinner.

1:55pm 1st over: It's the captain, Chris Gayle to open the West Indies innings with Devon Smith. Stuart Broad opens the England attack from the Nursery End.

Three slips in place (Strauss, Collingwood and Swann, from right to left) and some promising movement from Broad as he hits Gayle high up on the pads. Broad's already topping 90mph but the West Indies are off the mark with a single.

Late gate ticket news

1:52pm Late gate ticket news, hot off the press. The same set-up as yesterday. After the tea interval (scheduled for 3:40pm) you can get in for £15 to watch the final session's play. If you're under-16 you can get in for free.

Tickets are on sale from the North Gate at Lord's - even if you're under-16 you'll need to collect a ticket from there - but under or over, get down here. You can watch England's two debutant bowlers (Bresnan and Onions) in action.

1:49pm I'll have to find out what Fidel Edwards has for lunch. He took two wickets in the three overs after lunch yesterday; and two in two balls after lunch today (he'll start on a hattrick in England's second innings).

Whatever it is Edwards has for lunch, it certainly works. Those are his best ever bowling figures against England.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out1:40pm 112th over: It will be Edwards, still on at the Pavilion End. And whatever he had for lunch has worked again! Anderson's gone, first ball after lunch, caught behind.

England 377-9 - Anderson c. Ramdin b. Edwards - 1

That's a five-for for Fidel Edwards - well deserved from his efforts yesterday alone. Graham Onions is last man in for England - the second of the two Test debutants.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out for a duck (no runs)What a first ball to face in Test Match cricket. Onions is out, first ball to Edwards who clean bowled him - middle stump.

England 377 all out - Onions b. Edwards - 0

Six wickets for Edwards. His figures 6-92. His name will go up on the Honours Boards.

1:38pm Did you have a nice lunch? The West Indies are heading back onto the field and we're moments away from resuming after lunch. It was after the lunch break yesterday that Edwards had one of his most impressive bowling spells - the Windies will be hoping for more of the same today.

First thing this morning, most people I spoke to said 350 would be a good total for England. Thanks mostly to Swann, they're pressing on for 400+ now.

What do you think? How is the match poised? Can the West Indies recover? Should England seal a win from this position? Send us your emails.

1:02pm James Anderson may not want to be reminded - but here's a well-timed action shot from our man in the Ground, Matt Bright.

Anderson is on all fours, hurt - as Edwards looks on, concerned.

Lunch lasts until 1:40pm - so time to grab a sandwich. See you shortly. Remember to keep sending us your emails.

Lords.org commentary icon: Lunch12:58pm 111th over: Anderson's off the mark at last, with a single. And that's lunch.

12:57pm Cricket helmets - available from the Lord's Shop from £15
Check out the range of helmets on offer online - from £25
Now seems a good time to remind you that the Lord's Shop sell a great range of cricket helmets online - starting from just £25.

12:53pm 110th over: Edwards will resume the 110th over. It takes a lot of guts to stay out there and bat after a blow like that. Anderson seems to get more than his fair share of them too.

12:52pm Anderson's on his feet again. He looks ok. Swann helpfully hands over the new helmet brought on by the 12th man.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on12:47pm 110th over: Fidel Edwards returns to the attack, still looking for that elusive fifth wicket. He'd happily take a tail-ender to get his name on the Honours Boards - but Swann is certainly unwilling to offer up his wicket.

Ouch. Anderson's down - struck by a bouncer from Edwards. He tried to turn away from it and it acually struck him on the back of the head. TV replays show something actually breaking off his helmet it hit him that hard.

He's dazed and the England medical staff are on the pitch. Edwards and the West Indies team showing as much concern as anyone.

Here's the first photograph of Graeme Swann celebrating his half-century. Unsurprisingly, he has a massive grin on his face.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four12:41m 109th over: Swann drills that into the gap between cover and mid off for four.

12:37m 108th over: Anderson has now lasted three balls longer than Kevin Pietersen did...

That's probably harsh on Pietersen - it was a fantastic delivery from Edwards to remove "KP" yesterday.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman out12:30m 107th over: Bopara's out - tamely in the end too. He just dinked one into the cover fielder's hands.

England 368-8 - Bopara 143 - c. Nash b. Taylor

The Lord's crowd on their feet to applaud a great innings from Bopara.

It's all change for the West Indies field now after that breakthrough. Three slips welcome James Anderson to the crease.

12:26m 106th over: A better line from Baker in that over restricts the batsmen to singles.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on12:23m 105th over: Swann had his helmet off, celebrating that fifty like it was a century. It probably feels like it for the Nottinghamshire man - very well played indeed.

Meanwhile, Taylor replaces Edwards at the Nursery End.

12:18pm 104th over: Risky running from Bopara there, hitting down the ground again but almost directly to the man at mid off. He makes his ground in time - just.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, sixWow - the first six of the match and it's from Graeme Swann! A great hook shot.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a half-centuryThat's a half-century for Swann too - a maiden Test fifty, beating his previous best of 20 not out by quite some margin.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four12:14pm 103rd over: A boundary for Bopara brings up 350 for England - the last fifty runs were the quickest of the entire innings for England, scored from just 60 balls.

12:09pm 102nd over: Baker's bowling well outside off stump and Bopara's happy to let those go by.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four12:04pm 101st over: Just one slip in place and more short stuff from Edwards is going down the leg side - helped on it's way by Swann for four runs.

12:01pm 100th over: More short stuff, fired in from Baker but it's not accurate enough to trouble Swann unduly, who's happy to sway back out of the way or duck, as he bides his time.

12noon A real conundrum this, for the West Indies. Bopara's form yesterday would have worried them but I don't think anyone expected Graeme Swann to accelerate the scoring as he has done.

What would you do in skipper, Chris Gayle's shoes? Send us your emails.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four11:55am 99th over: Edwards offers width to Bopara now and he's more than happy to take advantage as he adds his first boundary of the day.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourSuccessive boundaries for Bopara now too. Technique and power and he just hits Edwards back down the ground - much as he did for most of yesterday.

Someone has just asked: "Who is England's best-ever tail-ender?" Lots of debate up here in the Investec Media Centre. Ashley Giles's name coming up a lot. What do you think? Send us your emails.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on11:51am 98th over: Taylor has clearly had enough of Swann's batting too - he's replaced at the Pavilion End by Lionel Baker.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourWidth offered from Baker and Swann is batting like an opener, never mind a tail-ender. Another four.

11:47am 97th over: Edwards is clearly not enjoying Swann's batting as much as the Lord's crowd - he fires in a sharp one which has the batsman ducking to evade it.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, four11:41am 96th over: Here we go again, with the 96th over of the match. A great start from Swann - four more.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourHe's done it again. Two fours in succession for the second time for Swann - this time from Taylor's bowling. The gloomy conditions don't appear to be affecting Swann too badly.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourAnother one! Off the last ball of the over Swann adds another boundary. He really is batting very well. That's the fifty partnership too.

11:38am Good news! The umpires are on the field and beckoning the players out again. Fortunately just a short break in play. The cloud cover hasn't changed a great deal. Let's hope this isn't a frustrating day of on-and-off play.

11:36am We'll do our best to keep you entertained during this (hopefully short) delay.

How about this for starters? The England balcony from left to right: Onions, Anderson (both padded up ready to bat), Pietersen, Broad, Bresnan and Strauss. Looks like "KP" is enjoying a morning cuppa.

11:26am Before the flurry of emails come in: No, MCC cannot just switch the new Lord's floodlights on. Firstly, ICC haven't given permission for them to be used; secondly there is no provision or official ruling on how/when they are used and finally, having only recently been installed, they have not yet been fully tested.

It may present an interesting situation in future though - what do you think of floodlights in Test cricket? Send us your emails.

11:24am 96th over: That two from Swann in the previous over make this (23 runs so far) his highest ever Test score.

Lords.org commentary icon - Bad lightOh, more frustration. The players head off the field, the umpires have called "Bad light".

11:18am 95th over: Swann gives that one a bit of air, over the square-leg umpire but the nearest fielder is back on the rope so it falls safely. Two runs.

A couple of no balls add to England's total and Edwards's frustration.

11:14am 94th over: The sunshine has faded again during the past few overs. A little gloomy as Taylor bowls to Bopara.

That one rears-up off a length from Taylor and goes clean through Swann's defences. More life in the pitch for the quick bowlers with this new ball in hand.

Lords.org commentary icon: New bowler comes on11:08am 93rd over: Surely this over will be bowled by the four-wicket man, Fidel Edwards? Sure enough, Gayle hands him the ball, with a little pep talk. Swann facing - Edwards chasing a five-for.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourThere's the first four of the day - a lovely shot from Swann. A big swing and he just powers Edwards back down the ground for four.

Lords.org commentary icon: Batsman scores a boundary, fourMake that two boundaries for Swann! Beautiful batting, straight from the coaching manual. Edwards looks a little bemused. I don't think he was expecting to be hit for successive fours by a tail-ender. 300 up for England.

Lords.org commentary icon: New ball taken11:03am 92nd over: That experiment was short-lived. West Indies take the new ball and give it straight to Jerome Taylor.

11:00am 91st over: First surprise of the day is Chris Gayle tossing the ball to Sulieman Benn. Starting with a spinner? Interesting - they're clearly not taking the new ball just yet.

A positive start from England, taking six runs from that over.

10:57am The umpires, Steve Davis and Asoka de Silva on the field, putting the bails on - and here come the players.

What will happen this morning? Can the tail hang on long enough to help Bopara? Or will the new ball, in the West Indies' hands make it a short morning's work for England's batsmen?

10:53am Just moments until the five minute bell is rung to signal the start of play is, predictably, five minutes away. The bell will be rung today by Graham Gooch.

Quite appropriate, given that Gooch is Bopara's mentor at Essex and still the holder of the record Test score here at Lord's - 333.

10:40am The only people left on the field now are stewards and media (Sky's Sir Ian Botham and Five's Mark Nicholas enjoying a chat near the wicket). We're 20 minutes away from the start of today's play.

Remember, this match is not sold out - tickets are still available and start from £25. Thursday's ticket news.

10:29am The West Indies are still on the field, warming-up but most of the England team are back in the dressing room. Just Tim Bresnan remains on the field, having a long discussion with the bowling coach, Ottis Gibson.

10:18am It's brightening up nicely now. The darker clouds have rolled away and it's looking much, much brighter on the field now.

Stretching exercises for the Windies players; slip catching and general fielding practice for England - bar the bowlers who are all warming up by bowling. All except Ravi Bopara, who is no doubt saving himself to continue his run-chase in about 40 minutes.

10:01am Remember to send us your emails. We had some great comments and questions yesterday from hattricks to our flashy new icons which help you follow the action.

9:58am Morning cricket fans. We are about one hour away from the start of day two of the England v West Indies Test Match. England resume on 289-7.

Both teams are already on the pitch warming up - and they'll need to be this morning. It's a fairly chilly, windy morning at Lord's, though it promises to stay dry.

9:06am The sunshine of yesterday has been replaced by cloud cover at a much darker looking Lord's today. That said, the weather forecast says dry but overcast.

Ravi Bopara will resume on 118, chasing the "big score" he promised yesterday. West Indies quick bowler, Fidel Edwards, resumes having taken 4-53 yesterday. One more wicket would see his name on the Lord's Honours Boards as well as Bopara's.
