Tom Graveney, the former England batsman, will serve as MCC President in 2004-05. His appointment was announced this afternoon by the current MCC President, Charles Fry, at MCC's Annual General Meeting at Lord's.
During his distinguished first-class career, between 1948 and 1971-72, Tom Graveney played for Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Queensland and England - scoring almost 48,000 runs (average: 44.91) and taking 80 wickets.
In his 79 Test matches, between 1951 and 1969, he scored almost 5,000 runs (average: 44.38) - including an innings of 258 against the West Indies in 1957. In total, he hit eleven Test hundreds - including two centuries at Lord's. (He scored 153 against Pakistan in 1962 and 151 against India in 1967).
Tom Graveney was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1953.
His term of office will begin on 1st October 2004.
