Tourists back on winning trail in Argentina

Date released: 13 February 2008

The MCC team touring in Argentina have recovered from their first defeat to clinch a 3-0 series whitewash against the Argentina team.

Previously, going into the fourth match of the tour MCC had played three and won three - but came unstuck against an impressive Argentina President's XI.

The Club had already clinched the Baimax Cup series, against Argentina, by taking a 2-0 series lead with a 15 run win on Sunday 3rd February.

But having been undone by an Argentine President's XI, MCC were in no mood to let up.

Despite tricky batting conditions, Richard King continued his good form with the bat, making an unbeaten 61.

President's XI

The match against the President's XI saw MCC continue their trend of posting ever increasing scores. They notched 281, largely thanks to the tourist's first centurion, King.

The Loughborough UCCE batsman scored an impressive 113 runs to anchor the MCC innings.

A blistering batting display from the hosts did the damage early on and the Club's team fell to their first defeat.

Impressive displays

Backed by a strong squad a host of players have taken the chance to test themselves early in the season.

In the first match, against Argentina Colts, Rob Walker top-scored with 47 - to steady a wavering MCC ship.

Cheltenham's George Brooksbank was the star with the ball in hand, taking three Colts wickets for 26 runs - figures he match, exactly in the next match against Argentina.

King from Loughborough, one of the MCC backed University Centres of Cricketing Excellence, also scored an impressive 93 in the victory over Argentina.
