MCC and Chance to Shine in schools

MCC

MCC is passionate about promoting the game and the Spirit of Cricket to children and young people all over the world.

MCC is the custodian of the Laws and Spirit of Cricket and an innovative independent voice in world cricket.

It is also the world’s most active cricket-playing club and the owner of Lord’s - ‘The Home of Cricket’.

MCC plays around 500 games annually. At any given moment in the year, there is usually an MCC team playing or coaching cricket somewhere in the world.

MCC fund the MCC Universities and has a long-established academy at Lord’s - MCC Young Cricketers.

Between them, many talented cricketers have been developed, including Sir Ian Botham, Mark Waugh and current England players Andrew Strauss, Nicky Shaw, Caroline Atkins and Monty Panesar.

Chance to Shine

Chance to Shine is the Cricket Foundation’s campaign to regenerate competitive cricket in state schools.

Launched in May 2005, it is the biggest ever school-sport development initiative and aims to offer two million children the benefits of cricket.

The clear motivation behind Chance to Shine lies in recognising the power of competitive team sports - and cricket in particular - to help young people develop skills and attitudes that will help them in all aspects of their future lives.

Partnership

The Cricket Foundation and MCC formed a new partnership in 2009.

Tens of thousands of children in Chance to Shine schools were introduced to the key Spirit of Cricket messages enshrined in the Laws of the game.

These messages apply to cricket but have universal value.
