What is the Lord’s Community Group?
The Lord’s Community Group is a community group established by the MCC as a way of effectively communicating with the local community surrounding Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Why has the Lord’s Community Group been set up?
The group was formed to assist communications between MCC and local communities.
It provides a forum where MCC can brief residents on operational and planning issues that have an effect on the local area. The group also enables MCC to inform members of forthcoming matches.
Additionally the group provides an opportunity for local residents and businesses to report any issues and problems so MCC can seek to resolve these directly or through the relevant body.
When does the Lord’s Community Group meet?
The Lord’s Community Group meets three times a year: Pre-season (March); mid-season (July); and post-season (November). Special meetings can be called should a specific Lord’s issue arise that needs to be communicated or discussed with the group.
Who chairs the Lord’s Community Group meetings?
Robert Rigby, one of the three Westminster City Council Councillors for the Regent’s Park Ward, chairs the Lord’s Community Group. In his absence then the group is chaired by Gwyneth Hampson or Daniel Astaire, the other two local councillors.
How were the members of the Lord’s Community Group chosen?
The membership of the Lord’s Community Group is made up of representatives from local businesses, residents’ associations and community groups in the geographical area surrounding Lord’s Cricket Ground. This includes the St John's Wood Society.
Can I join the Lord’s Community Group?
Membership of the Lord’s Community Group is open to representatives of local businesses, residents’ associations and community groups in the area around Lord's.
Can non-members attend Lord’s Community Group meetings?

For weekend non-major matches please contact the Duty Officer via the Main Switchboard on 020 7616 8500.
We will respond as quickly as possible to each enquiry although please be aware that some issues may require investigation.

How do spectators travel to and from Lord’s?
Spectators have a range of public transport options including underground stations at St John’s Wood (Jubilee line), Baker Street (Bakerloo, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan) and Warwick Avenue (Bakerloo) plus local bus services.
What have you done to encourage people to use alternative transport rather than St John’s Wood station?
We recognise the pressure on St Johns Wood tube and make an active effort to inform crowds attending matches at Lord's that there are alternatives ways of getting to and from the ground. Public announcements are made on match days, information is provided with the ticket and there is a journey planner on the Lord's website.
Additionally we have worked with Westminster Council to improve the signage for pedestrians using Baker Street.
What are you doing to address parking problems in the local area on match days?
MCC is aware that parking is very limited in and around the ground and we recommend to spectators that they do not to bring cars to the area.
MCC is currently undertaking a review to investigate parking as a whole during major match days. We continue to liaise closely with Westminster City Council and the local police on this and will be discussing the outcomes of the survey with them as well as the Lord’s Community Group to see how improvements can be made.
When will the floodlights be used for matches at Lord’s Cricket Ground?
Floodlights are used for up to 10 day/night matches during each cricket season. All floodlit matches will be clearly marked on the MCC’s fixture list which can be Lord's fixture list.
MCC also has an additional allocation of 12 day uses per season for major match days. These can only be used during the daytime in the event of bad light.
What time will the floodlights be turned off?
MCC’s planning conditions for the floodlights state that the floodlights must be switched off by 9:50pm.
What monitoring/testing of the floodlights takes place?
The floodlights are tested each season to ensure that they accord with the terms of the planning permission.
Who should I contact if I have an issue with the floodlights?
Please contact Abi Carter on 0207 616 8677 or email abi.carter@mcc.org.uk.
When is amplified music played at matches at Lord’s?
Amplified music is only played during Twenty 20 matches at Lord’s. There is no amplified music during Test matches, one day internationals and any other Middlesex games.
Does Lord’s host any non-cricket events such as pop concerts?
There are no plans to host any other events at Lord’s on the main ground other than cricket matches and the archery competition for the London 2012 Olympics.
There are receptions and other events held in the pavilion and other hospitality areas throughout the year. As with cricket matches at Lord’s, MCC works hard to ensure that these events have as little impact on the local area as possible.
Will vuvuzelas be allowed at Lord’s?
The Club has decided that vuvuzelas will not be allowed at Lord’s Cricket Ground. There is already a policy of not allowing any musical instruments into the ground to protect the unique atmosphere at Lord’s. This is supported by the local community, MCC members and cricket fans.
What are you doing to minimise the effect of noise on the local area?
The club recently carried out a noise monitoring exercise in consultation with the St John’s Wood Society.
We will continue to monitor noise levels as part of agreeing a suitable level that does not have an overly adverse impact on local residents whilst recognising that Lord’s is a major sports ground.
We are also in the process of upgrading our PA system. Once complete this should further minimise the effect of noise from the Ground on the local area.
Who should I contact if I have an issue with noise during a match at Lord’s?
If you have a problem with noise during a match please call the noise duty officer on 07527 320529.
