Alan Radford

Born in Barnet but raised in Essex, Alan’s cricketing career reached its pinnacle during his Languages degree at Cambridge University when, in sight of but not at Fenners, he participated in what was then a world record 24 hour continuous cricket match. A much-coveted mention in Wisden was the result, something which Alan’s abilities would never have allowed him to achieve by more conventional means. Alan modestly describes his achievements as a wicket keeper batsman of limited skill as ‘forgettable’ and so his cricket now is confined to watching England and Essex whenever his career as a practising Chartered Accountant in Chelmsford and travels permit. If Alan was never destined to play at Lord’s, he had always felt that to commentate on matches there would be a very close second. Selection for the Ball by Ball service has thus enabled him to fulfil a genuine ambition.
