After Kapil Dev won the toss and put England into bat, they managed a score of 294 on the back of a brilliant 114 off 280 balls from Graham Gooch.

Chetan Sharma helped India restrict England to just below 300 by picking up the crucial wickets of Graham Gooch, David Gower, Mike Gatting, Allan Lamb and Paul Downton to finish his 5-64.
