Ravi Shastri claimed his spot on the famous Lord’s Honours Boards when he hit 121 during India’s defeat to England in 1990.
In a match most remembered for Graham Gooch’s remarkable score of 333 in the first innings of the match, opener Shastri was under pressure to lead his side to a decent total in response to England’s score of 653/4d.
Shastri did exactly what was required, hitting his century before being dismissed for a score of 100 off 184 balls.
Despite his efforts, India would go on to lose the match by 247 runs with Gooch scoring a further 123 runs in England’s second innings.
