MCC end tour with Rwanda victory

MCC closed their 2013 tour of Uganda with a comfortable 94-run victory over Rwanda in a 30-over game on Monday 14 October.

MCC captain Arfan Akram top scored with 39 after winning the toss and electing to bat at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala.

With help from Chad Barrett, who struck 36 from number three, MCC posted 176/7 from their 30 overs.

In response Rwanda were never really at the races as they were dismissed for just 82, with Akram having a fine all round game, taking 3/8 from his 2.4 overs and James Irvine-Fortescue (3/17) also bagging three victims.

Despite the clear gap in standard between the two teams, the match was extremely beneficial to the Rwandan team, who had also enjoyed a training session with the MCC tourists in the morning before the game.

Speaking after the match, MCC Tour Manager David Otway commented: "Even just the few hours when we were coaching, in front of our eyes we could see how much the Rwandan players were improving.

"It's humbling to see players from this part of the world being so enthusiastic and open to us coming and coaching them.

"I believe cricket in Rwanda, and Uganda, has a very bright future."

Following the game there was a presentation on the outfield after MCC players had donated some of their cricket equipment to the Rwandan players.
