Phil Tufnell, in an interview with Lord's TV, says he has been annoyed by talk of Andrew Strauss losing his place in the England team.
Tufnell, a former teammate of Strauss with Middlesex, spoke of his surprise that the England Test captain has been put under pressure from some in the media so soon after leading England to the top of the Test rankings.
"I was a bit annoyed really at the way Andrew has had so much pressure put on him.
"He's just got us to number one in the world and then after they didn't do so well and struggled a bit against spin, everyone is calling for his head three games later!
"He has built this team fantastically well and has been a main part of us getting to number one in the world. And then we want to kick him out the door, which I think is amazing!
"Yes, as a batsman you always want to be scoring runs so I'm sure he will be under a little bit of pressure, but he bats well in England and I'm sure a score is just around the corner."
Tufnell's latest book, Tuffer's Cricket Tales is published on 24 May 2012. Tufnell has collected together his favourite stories from the cricket pitch, dressing room and beyond in one volume.
Tufnell will be signing copies of the book at lunch time on day two and three of the England v West Indies Test.
