A squad of MCC Young Cricketers departed for a five-game pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Thursday 13 March.

The group, led by MCC Head Coach Mark Alleyne, will have two days to acclimatise before taking on a Combined MCC Universities side in a day-night 50-over clash against on Sunday 16 March at the Zayed Stadium.

They will then face a Combined MCC Universities side in a three-day game from Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 March, before meeting them once more in a Twenty20 clash on Friday 21 March.

The squad will also have the opportunity to test themselves against county opposition in 50-over matches against Lancashire and Sussex on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March respectively.

All these boys deserve to be part of the squad and I’m looking forward to seeing them develop their skills further on this tour

MCC Head Coach, Mark Alleyne, said: "This is a great chance for our Young Cricketers to play in great facilities against some of the country’s best players, and I’m confident they’ll give a good account of themselves.

“All these boys deserve to be part of the squad and I’m looking forward to seeing them develop their skills further on this tour. They have a big season ahead, including more games for MCC Young Cricketers against county teams, and this tour should strengthen team protocols and standards."

The MCC Young Cricketers programme gives expert coaching to 18-20 year olds, with the aim of helping them progress into careers in the county/international game. They also receive training in CV writing and other life skills.

Notable ‘graduates’ from the scheme include Ian Botham, Phil Tufnell, Mark Waugh and Ross Taylor.
