MCC V Kenya U19s Match Report
by Steve Salisbury (Tour Manager)
MCC were delighted to welcome Kenya U19 to their almost adopted ground at the Kyambogo Oval today, in a game reflecting the power of sport over politics.
The Kenyan boys had made the journey to Uganda by bus arriving at 3am but bursting to play the MCC.

Solid innings: Bilal Shafayat On another glorious morning MCC lost the toss and were inserted on a pitch which offered early assistance to the talented seam attack of Elijah Otieno and Nelson Odhiambo.
Runs were hard to come by for James Beeny and David Adams in the first 10 overs. The fall of the first wicket brought Nottinghamshire’s Bilal Shafayat (80) to the crease who immediately imposed himself with a series of classy, wristy strokes on a pitch still difficult to time the ball on.
David Adams’ departure retired hurt with a finger injury saw Keith Newell (42) join Shafayat in a 95 run partnership full of quality striking and deft placement.
MCC captain, Jamie Dalrymple (49*) then played a wonderful cameo to see MCC score 93 off the final ten overs of the innings.
The Kenyan reply did not get off to a good start with the loss of Gudka in the second over to Cheshire’s Adam Sydall (2-27).
Despite some attacking, clean striking the Kenyan U19s lost regular wickets in the face of a very organised and professional attack.
Wickets fell regularly as the spinners took a stranglehold on the game with Middlesex’s Chris Peploe(1-12) and David Adams (3-12) finishing the game as the Kenyans capitulated to a disappointing 102 all out in 29 overs.

The Uganda disabled team, training with MCC After the game a wonderful sight could be seen and heard on the ground with the whole touring party engaged in a variety of activities with the groups assembled.
The Ugandan disabled cricketers returned for another coaching session by MCC coaches and players chatted in groups with both Kenyan and Ugandan U19 players on various tactics and techniques best employed in the different forms of the game.
A true picture of enthusiastic and passionate cricketers immersed in the game and of the Spirit of Cricket in action and in good voice.
