Loughborough UCCE pip MCC Women

MCC Women lost out by two runs in a nail-biting contest with the strongest university in the country, Loughborough UCCE on Thursday 22 May.

Former MCC 'YC', Nicky Shaw, turned out for Loughborough An MCC team featuring stars including England’s Claire Taylor and Australian opener Leah Poulton scored 206 in reply to Loughborough’s total of 208.
Loughborough boast England internationals of their own in the form of Laura Marsh and Nikki Shaw, the latter a former MCC Young Cricketer.
The MCC University Centre of Cricketing Excellence side currently stand top of the BUSA Premier League (North) after winning all their matches.
Their total of 208 was largely down to Salliann Briggs, who top scored with a fine 87.

Salliann Briggs:Anchored Loughborough's innings MCC batsmen Jenny Gunn and Claire Taylor came into the match in fine form, Gunn scored 115 for Nottinghamshire and Taylor 146 for Berkshire at the weekend.
It was former MCC Young Cricket, Caroline Atkins who was the star of the MCC's batting though. Atkins fell just short of guiding her team to an improbable victory.
The MCC captain batted superbly to get 99* but was unable to lay a bat on the final ball to score the three runs MCC needed for a win.
The two run win was Loughborough’s revenge after MCC beat them by three runs in 2007.
