MCC women star in England victory

Holly Colvin was named player of the tournament MCC youngsters played a big role as England Women won the NatWest Quadrangular Twenty20 tournament, beating Australia in the final at the Rose Bowl.
England beat India, New Zealand and Australia in the round-robin group stage before overcoming their arch-rivals by 16 runs in the final.
MCC Young Cricketers Sarah Taylor and Danielle Wyatt, current MCC Universities bowler Holly Colvin and Loughborough MCCU graduate Laura Marsh were all in action during the competition.
Left-arm spinner Colvin in particular excelled with the ball and finished as the tournament’s leading wicket taker with seven at an average of just 9.85 – including 2-16 in the final.
Her consistent performances earned the 21-year-old the man-of-the-series award.
England’s attentions now turn to the 50-over NatWest Quadrangular against the same opposition – which includes a mouthwatering rematch with Australia at Lord’s.

Impressive win

Sarah Taylor was man-of-the-match against Australia England, reigning ICC World Champions in both the 50-over and 20-over formats, hit the ground running, thrashing New Zealand by eight wickets in their opening match.
Colvin was voted a deserved man-of-the-match in that fixture for a magnificent spell of 3-17 which ripped through the Kiwi top order. Colvin also combined with wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor to brilliantly run out Liz Perry.
Taylor had her turn to collect the man-of-the-match accolade in the second group match against Australia.
The 22-year-old made an impressive 25 from 22 balls as England set the Aussies 137 to win. She was then in inspired form behind the stumps, collecting a catch and a stumping in the 22-run win.
Wyatt collected three wickets for just ten runs and also affected the run out which sealed the win for England.
She collected another 2-20 and made a fluent 23 from 14 balls as England beat India, taking them to the final.
Great achievement

Danielle Wyatt was impressive throughout the competition John Stephenson, Head of Cricket at MCC, declared his delight at England victory.
