Pakistan - 256-7
(Misbah 83*, Shafiq 58; Broad 3-57, Swann 3-52)
Second Test bulletin: Day one
Date released: 25 January 2012

Broad was England's best bowler on day one in Abu Dhabi
England’s bowlers, led by Stuart Broad enjoyed an excellent opening day of the second Test, restricting Pakistan to 256-7 on a docile track in Abu Dhabi.
Broad was the standout performer collecting 3-47 while Graeme Swann also took three wickets, including that of Abdur Rahman late in the day, after England had been sent into the field by Pakistan.
England, who recalled spinner Monty Panesar after an absence of more than two years, also dropped three catches - including that of captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who finished the day 83 not out including two sixes off Panesar in the final over of the day.
His fifth wicket partnership of precisely 100 with Asad Shafiq, who made a patient 58, formed the backbone of the Pakistan innings and helped them recover from 103-4 shortly after Lunch.
Misbah, who took 168 balls for his knock, was dropped by James Anderson at slip of Panesar on 30, and later survived an umpire review for LBW off Anderson's bowling.
His wicket will be the key on the second morning, before England's batsmen begin their attempt to make amends for a dismal performance in Dubai last week.
Pakistan's openers Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar earlier continued their excellent record together, putting on 51 for the opening partnership.
The introduction of Panesar and Swann stifled their progress though, as the pair found some early turn before dismissing both openers in quick succession before Lunch.
Broad, with Panesar bowling a long holding spell from the other end, then put England well on top by bowling Younis Khan and Azhar Ali in quick succession.
Swann, who was used less than Panesar, was far from his best but trapped Shafiq LBW on the sweep to break the key partnership.
Broad dismissed Adnan Akmal LBW with the second new ball and England were further buoyed with just five minutes remaining when Swann bowled Rehman with a beauty which spun past his outside edge.
