Under-13 finalists confirmed

1,800 teams from across the country have been whittled down to eight. Leamington, Yateley, Old Northamptonians, Sheringham, North Middlesex, Wakefield Thornes, Hatherleigh and Barton-under-Needwood are through to the MCC Spirit of Cricket Under-13 National Club Championship finals.
Old Northamptonians Under-13s They will compete for the Ken Barrington Cup between 5-8 August at Oakham School.
Each team won its county competition to reach the regional finals. There they faced either two or three neighbouring counties’ clubs.
From 2004 national champions Leamington, who won with one ball to spare over Worcestershire's Barnt Green in the West Midlands Final, to Devon’s Heatherleigh who only have 13 under-13s at the club, the regional finals have seen many heroic performances from players as young as 11.

"It is pleasing to see two minor counties represented in the finals – showing children’s cricket is strong across the country.”
Exemplifying the Spirit of Cricket message better than anyone was the captain of Ashton Rowant CC of Oxfordshire who recalled a North Middlesex batsman who had been given out at the crucial stage in the Home Counties final.
The teams will play a round-robin tournament at Oakham School.
