Westminster Challenge
MCC's Roger Knight with the then Lord Mayor, promoting last year's Westminster Cricket Challenge Cup

Westminster Cricket Challenge Cup: 14th July

Date released: 21 May 2004

This year's Westminster Cricket Challenge Cup will be staged at Lord's on Wednesday 14th July.

Once again, MCC will be offering visitors both free admission to Lord's and and complimentary guided tours of the Ground. These tours proved particularly popular last year - with no fewer than 440 people seizing the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at Lord's.

The tours cover many of the most famous parts of 'the home of cricket' - from the historic Long Room to the futuristic NatWest Media Centre.

Arranged in conjunction with Westminster City Council, the competition will raise funds for a worthy cause nonimated by the Lord Mayor. With the teams paying to take part, it is hoped that this year's event will emulate the achievements of its predecessors. (Last year's tournament generated £15,000 to help St Mary's Hospital, in Paddington, step up its battle against bowel cancer.)
