MCC launch Made in Oldstead premium picnics for Lord's

Posted: 17 March 2022

MCC has expanded its existing partnership with Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks with a premium picnic offering for match days at Lord’s Cricket Ground provided by Made In Oldstead, Banks’ award-winning food box business, providing unique fine-dining experiences wherever you are.

The offering will provide both classic and premium options for spectators to purchase in advance of International matches at Lord’s to be enjoyed from the comfort of their seats, in front of the on-field action. They will contain a delicious starter, main and dessert, as well as grazing snacks and afternoon tea with specially paired premium Banks Brothers canned wine, or non-alcoholic option, completing the feasting experience.

The picnic ingredients have been grown and foraged from Made In Oldstead’s farm and garden or sourced from their trusted local suppliers. To ensure the production of the hampers are aligned with the Club’s and Banks’ strong sustainability ethos, the picnics are all made to order.

Banks first collaborated with MCC in 2019, when he combined his two passions of cricket and food, heading up the kitchen for a sold-out Lord’s Dining Club, a popular ongoing culinary series in which Michelin-starred chefs create a bespoke menu for an evening in the famous Long Room of the Pavilion at the Home of Cricket. Banks is currently the chef of the Edrich restaurant at Lord’s serving a fine-dining tasting menu for spectators with premium seats on International match days.

Speaking about the Club’s newest venture with Banks, Andy Muggleton, MCC’s Assistant Secretary (Commercial) said: “Working with Tommy and his team is always a great pleasure. We’ve had outstanding feedback from our diners who have relished Tommy’s creations in the Edrich, so we’re excited about bringing his innovative and fantastic food to all of our match day visitors to enjoy.”

"My team and I have worked hard to create a picnic experience like no other"

Looking forward to the new project with MCC, Tommy Banks said: “I am thrilled to expand my partnership with MCC. I still get a huge wave of excitement every time I step into Lord’s, so to be able to offer my dining experiences away from the restaurant setting is a huge honour. My team and I have worked hard to create a picnic experience like no other, and we’re excited for cricket fans to get tucked in.”

Lord’s is renowned for its outstanding food and drinks offerings, from players’ dining and hospitality to match day catering. There are also plans to increase the offering beyond International matches at Lord’s, with a family-friendly grazing box to be developed for The Hundred matches, which are scheduled to be played during the school summer holidays.
