MCC to offer NHS employees tickets to Bob Willis Trophy Final

Posted: 17 September 2021

MCC is delighted to be offering NHS employees the chance to visit Lord’s to see two of the country’s top teams go head-to-head in the Bob Willis Trophy Final later this month.

The Home of Cricket will host the showpiece final between Tuesday 28 September and Saturday 2 October, as the season culminates with the top two counties from the LV= Insurance County Championship doing battle for the coveted trophy.

The Bob Willis Trophy, named after the great England fast bowler who sadly passed away in 2019 after suffering from prostate cancer, was first played in 2020. The final at Lord’s – played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic – saw Somerset draw with Essex, with the latter winning the trophy on virtue of their first innings score.

This will be the first time that spectators have been able to attend this match at Lord’s and MCC is thanking NHS employees for their incredible efforts over the past 18 months with free tickets to the final.

Those signed up to the Blue Light Tickets scheme will be able to come to Lord’s for any day of the Bob Willis Trophy Final – and bring a guest – free of charge.

MCC Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender said: “There are many people throughout the NHS who make outstanding contributions in their fields daily, and no more so than over the past 18 months as we have battled against the pandemic.

“We are proud to be able to make this small gesture and welcome Blue Light Card holders to Lord’s for what we anticipate will be an exciting fixture to close out a wonderful summer.”

The match will be played over five days and play is due to begin at 10.30 each day, with the close of play approximately 17.30.

Blue Light Card holders should visit here for full details on how to attend the match free of charge.
