As part of MCC's partnership with The Ruth Strauss Foundation and the #RedforRuth day at Lord’s on Day Two of the LV= Insurance Men’s Test between England and South Africa, MCC is delighted that the original Sacha Jafri 2019 Cricket World Cup artwork is on show at Lord’s.
The painting, which captures England’s famous winning moment at the Ground three years ago, is now on display in the Pavilion for six months, after recently selling for £650,000 at The Foundation’s inaugural #RockForRuth event.
England cricket stars and celebrities including Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Ed Sheeran and Bear Grylls added their handprints to the piece.
50 limited edition prints of one of the most famous cricketing paintings of recent times have gone on sale this week, with proceeds going to The Ruth Strauss Foundation. The replicas have been printed on silk canvas with the artist individually numbering and signing each copy by hand.
The Ruth Strauss Foundation was founded in memory of former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss’ wife who was diagnosed with an incurable non-smoking lung cancer at the age of 46. The couple recognised the importance of preparing their two sons (aged 10 and 13 at the time) for her death, and the need for open and honest conversations.
Renowned artist Sacha Jafri became friends with Andrew Strauss during their studies at Durham University. Jafri is the artist behind the world’s largest painting on canvas, Journey of Humanity, which sold for US$62m in 2021.
The prints are available for £8,000 (including VAT), with all proceeds of the sale after costs going to the work of The Foundation.
