Lord's guaranteed two Tests a year Published: 22 September 2011

Lord’s is set to host two Test matches a year for at least the next five years, after ECB announced the distribution of major matches until 2016.

MCC will host two Ashes Tests, in 2013 and 2015, as well as the inaugural World Test Championship Final, in 2013.

The Club will also stage an MCC v Rest of the World one-day match in 2014 to mark the bicentenary of the present Lord’s Ground, in St John’s Wood, as part of a full programme of matches.

'Platinum package'
Major matches between 2013 and 2016 have been allocated by the ECB to ground authorities in a variety of ‘packages’.

The largest of these – the ‘Platinum Package’ – was granted to MCC to ensure all touring sides are given the opportunity to play at Lord’s and to provide the necessary financial security to enable to Club to continue to invest in cricket.

From the guardianship of the Laws & Spirit of Cricket, to the administration of the six MCC Universities, the Club invests more than £1 million each year in the game.

Keith Bradshaw described the security of major match days for the short and medium term as ‘invaluable’.

He added: “This is fantastic news, not just for MCC and its Members, but for all the supporters and players who love coming to Lord’s.

“MCC is delighted with the Platinum Package. It contains more match days than any other, but I firmly believe MCC’s philanthropic investment in all levels of the game, both at home and abroad, coupled with the fact that every international cricketer wants to play at Lord’s, justifies this award to the Club.

“Cricket lovers visiting Lord’s for matches over the next few years should be in for a treat – all the best Test sides will be playing here, the first World Test Champion will be crowned at the Home of Cricket, and there will be a fabulous celebration when the great Ground reaches its 200th birthday.”
