vs South AfricaBack to boards

Moeen Ali claimed a six-wicket haul during South Africa’s second innings to grab a spot on the Lord’s Honours Boards for the very first time.

Taking four wickets for 59 runs during South Africa’s first innings, Ali continued his devastating spell of spin, with a further six wickets for just 53 runs to seal an impressive win for England during Joe Root’s debut as England captain.

Dean Elgar, Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, Theunis de Bruyn, Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada were all dismissed by Ali during South Africa’s second innings as they were bowled all out for only 119 runs to hand England the victory by 211 runs.

Ali, who was named man-of-the-match, said it was “the best all-round performance of [his] career” as he finished with figures of 10-112 to help England start life under new captaincy in the perfect manner.
