MCC has underlined its commitment to grassroots cricket by becoming an affiliate sponsor of the National Village Cup in the competition’s 40th year.
The Club joins The Times, the Village Cup’s media partner, for this historic year of the competition, which offers village amateurs the chance of living out a dream and playing at Lord’s.
The Village Cup final was first hosted at Lord’s in 1972 and has been a feature at the Home of Cricket since, with Mike Atherton’s former club Woodhouses winning in 2011.
This year, MCC will host a special dinner on the eve of the September final with current MCC President Phillip Hodson delivering an address.
The dinner will be attended by the finalists, sponsors, officials and other guests.
Colin Maynard, Acting Secretary & Chief Executive of MCC, said: “The Club is delighted to assist The Cricketer in the Village Cup’s 40th-anniversary celebrations.
“MCC encourages cricket at every level and in all formats, and this year’s association with the Cup is naturally consistent with that aim.”
Clubs interested in entering the competition should visit The Cricketer’s website for more information.
