Legal Advisor (Maternity Cover)

MCC owns Lord’s Cricket Ground, has led the game for over 200 years and helped take it from a national pastime to a global obsession. Founded in 1787, MCC is recognised as the sole authority on the game’s Laws. There are approximately 18,000 Full and 5,000 Associate Members of MCC.

As well as hosting some of the most memorable international matches in history, Lord’s has recently hosted the finals of both the Men’s and Women’s ICC Cricket World Cup. 

An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Advisor to provide maternity cover on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract to assist the Assistant Secretary (Legal)l in supporting the needs of the Club’s diverse businesses by providing appropriate, effective and timely legal advice. 

The successful candidate will provide proactive and clear legal advice and assistance on a wide range of legal matters where required for example, commercial, technology, digital media and retail agreements, data protection and employment. They will assist in advising the Club’s operations where required on statutory and regulatory compliance. 

They will also be responsible for contract management and processing, together with drafting and negotiation in connection with a broad range of subjects. 

They will assist with brand protection and intellectual property, and conduct ad hoc legal research followed up by advice. 

Required skills and expertise

Candidates should have around four years’ PQE. However, the PQE level is purely a guide. We are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil the role. 

They should have experience in commercial and contract law on a transactional basis and ideally data protection, privacy and e-communication experience. 

The role will suit someone who has gained some in-house experience and has excellent negotiation, drafting and communication skills, coupled with keen attention to detail. Knowledge of cricket would be useful but not essential 

The successful candidate will be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in a fast-moving environment where decisions have to be made promptly. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationship both internally and externally.
