Days after being named in the provisional England World T20 squad, Lords.org columnist Steve Finn was called out to Bangladesh to join the England Test team.
Finn had just written his latest, exclusive column for Lords.org - talking about how pleased he was with the T20 call-up.
Less than 24-hours later injured England seamer Ryan Sidebottom was sent home from the tour of Bangladesh and with doubts over the fitness of Stuart Broad and Graham Onions - Finn was called up.
Speaking to Lords.org from the airport at Heathrow, ready to board his flight to Bangladesh Finn said:
"It was just a fantastic surprise.
"Hugh Morris [ECB Managing Director] called me at about 9:30 yesterday morning. He was obviously keen to get hold of me - he'd left me a message and called my house number too.
"I nearly missed the call - I was trying to get some sleep having only recently got back from a month on tour in Dubai with the England Lions.
"I was half asleep - but it was a great call to get. I'm just really honoured to be given the chance."
Details of the extent of Broad and Onions' injuries are yet to be confirmed and Finn is trying not to think too far ahead:
"Obviously it's likely I won't play. I hope Stuart [Broad] and Graham [Onions] are ok - you'd never wish an injury on anyone.
"That said, if I get the chance, it would be fantastic to play Test cricket for England.
"At this stage I'm just really pleased to be recognised. I'm heading out to Bangladesh to learn, to work hard and do as I'm told.
"I feel ready to play if needed, with wickets under my belt already from the Lions tour - but this is just going to be more great experience for me. I can't wait."
