Middlesex batsmen struggle on opening day in Hove Published: 06 April 2014

Sussex have taken the initiative in the first match of the 2014 county season against Middlesex at Hove.

Thanks to debutant Jon Lewis' 4/34, the hosts bowled Middlesex out for just 105, before reaching 86/3 by the close of day one.

Dawid Malan top-scored for Middlesex with 35, but Sam Robson and Toby Roland-Jones joined him in double figures as Middlesex's batsmen struggled in difficult conditions on the south coast.

No play was possible as day two was washed out for rain, and the teams will resume on day three with Sussex looking to build a large first innings advantage.
