MCC regrets to announce that former President Michael Melluish O.B.E. has died aged 81.
Melluish served as President of the Club in 1991/92, at a time when this role also included the Presidency of ICC. His widow, Anna, informed the Club of his passing on Saturday evening.
Melluish attended Cambridge University, and was a regular in the university side as wicket-keeper throughout his three years as a student from 1954 to 1956. He played one County Championship match for Middlesex in 1957, and regularly represented MCC, captaining the Club on a tour to the Netherlands and Denmark in 1963.
Melluish was elected as a Member of the MCC in 1956, and served on the Committee between 1974 until 2002, with only a few short breaks in between. He also served as Treasurer, and was an Honorary Life Vice-President. Until April last year, he had also been a Trustee of the MCC Foundation.
He was awarded an OBE in the 1999 Queen’s Birthday honours for his services to cricket.
A private funeral will be held, and a memorial service is planned for later in the year.
