Henry Blofeld will ring the five-minute bell before the start of play on Day Three of the first England v South Africa Investec Test match at Lord’s on Saturday.

The BBC ‘Test Match Special’ broadcaster has been a popular figure within the game, commentating on matches for 45 years.

He announced his plan to retire from broadcasting at the end of the current season earlier this year.

'Blowers' originally started his career as a cricketer, playing first-class matches for Cambridge University in the 1950s.

After moving into Journalism in the 1960s, Blofeld eventually switched to TMS in 1972.

His unique dulcet tones, with the regular use of the phrase “my dear old thing”, have been firmly ingrained into cricketing folklore and he follows in the footsteps of Graeme Smith and James Taylor in ringing the bell for this summer’s Investec Test series.

The full list of previous bell ringers can be found here.
