Former MCC Young Cricketer Glenn Phillips will make his international debut for New Zealand on Friday 17 February.

Phillips, who excelled during his time at Lord’s last season, replaces the injured Martin Guptill for the T20 clash against South Africa at Eden Park.

The 20-year-old has impressed in his first season with the Auckland Aces in the Super Smash tournament, averaging 46.12 at a strike rate of 143.

He was a standout performer for the Young Cricketers last season, and made headlines when he smashed 201 from 123 balls against the Duke of Norfolk’s XI in Arundel – an innings which saw Phillips hit six sixes in one over.

MCC Head Coach Steve Kirby said: “Glenn did brilliantly for us last season, and his potential as a wicketkeeper batsman was obvious.

"I know he gained a lot from being involved with the Young Cricketers, and it's great to see him progressing so quickly.

"He has had a brilliant domestic season in New Zealand and thoroughly deserves this call up – I wish him every success for his debut and future career.”
