After meeting the lads and collecting our kit in the away dressing room at Lord’s, we set off on our adventure to Mexico & Belize.
Our first day was spent acclimatising and doing a bit of sight-seeing which included the Metropolitan Cathedral – the location for the James Bond film Spectre.
This was soon followed by the first incident of the tour – one of our squad having his phone stolen out of his pocket. Fortunately he had the nouse to get it back!
On the pitch, we have played four games at the Reforma Club in Mexico City which is a beautiful ground situated in the hills overlooking the city.
Our first game was against the Indian XI which we won in strange circumstances. After the game the pitch was measured and turned out to be 26 yards long, which would explain why all our bowlers bowled bouncers all game!
This was rectified for the game against the Chairman’s XI which got underway after a spot of lunch, and saw us claim our second victory.
A very productive day with two good wins meant the boys were in good spirits at the post-match drinks reception.
The following day we took on the Pakistan XI which resulted in our most convincing win so far and set us up for what would be the most challenging game in the afternoon against Mexico. MCC batted first and racked up a huge total of 155 and then bowled Mexico out for 90.
Our final day in Mexico was either spent playing golf at the beautiful Madeira County Club or taking a hot air balloon tour over the pyramids.
A fantastic two days of cricket at a lovely ground means we head to Belize for the Central American Championships ready to go.
The boys have thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the Mexico Cricket Association and we can't thank them enough.
On to Belize...
