Alec Stewart has described Matt Prior as the best wicket-keeper in Test cricket, and backed him to pass his England records in the coming years.
Speaking exclusively to Lord's TV, Stewart heaped praise on the current incumbent of the wicket-keeper/batsman role which he occupied for 82 Tests of his England record 133 appearances.
He said: "[Prior] is outstanding. I've gone on record as saying he's the best Test wicket-keeper batsman around - and I don't say that lightly."
Prior and Stewart were among the guests at Lord's for Prior's benefit year's launch dinner, which featured seven past and present England wicket-keepers including Bob Taylor and James Foster.
And Stewart, whose 4,540 runs as England's Test 'keeper is also a record, backed Prior (currently on 2,699) to 'sail past' his own achievements.
"Records are there to be broken," added the former MCC World Cricket committee member.
"I'd expect Matt to sail past me. He's fit, loves the game of cricket, loves the challenge of bettering himself all the time and challenging himself against the best from around the world.
"So I'd expect him to play at least another five years and in that time I'd have thought he will smash all the records."
