The 2016 dinner of the M.C.C. Bridge Society, held at Lord's on Thursday, 17th November, took a fond look back at the origins of the Society more than 20 years ago, in the presence of two of the key figures behind its launch and subsequent success.
The guest of honour was the immediate Past President of the Club, Roger Knight (above), who as Secretary and Chief Executive in 1994 had been keen to encourage greater use of the facilities at Lord's by Members. Bridge was one of the activities to benefit from that initiative. Nigel Parmenter, one of the small group of founders, received a special presentation to mark his many years of service to the Society as Honorary Secretary (see picture below). The current Society Chairman, George Meyer, also paid tribute to the contribution of Peter Donovan, who was unable to attend the dinner at the last moment due to travel problems.
Also in attendance was the current Chief Executive & Secretary, Derek Brewer. After his speech, covering his years in cricket and as a schoolmaster, Roger presented various trophies for the Society's tournaments over the past year.

2016 Rubber Bridge Champion Ian Engel (winner with Richard Cumming-Bruce)
