Lord’s has been a major part of the fabric of St John’s Wood for nearly 200 years. Matches at the Ground bring in significant revenue – not to mention thousands of cricket fans – to the local area.
MCC wants to bring the benefits of having the world’s most famous cricket ground – complete with its world-class facilities and a 180-strong staff with diverse skill-sets – to its neighbours.
Developing a comprehensive community engagement programme to help enrich the lives of, in particular, some of the City of Westminster’s most disadvantaged residents was identified as a priority in the Club’s Strategic Plan. Consequently, in April 2013, MCC’s first Community Development Manager was recruited.
In addition, MCC works with local residents, politicians, religious groups, emergency services and businesses who comprise the Lord’s Community Group.
The group works on issues affecting the local community such as traffic and spectator management, and will be a key body in the Club’s consultation within the local community on its plans for the development of Lord’s.
