MCC will welcome Simon Taufel to Lord’s on Wednesday 24 July to deliver the thirteenth MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture in front of a capacity audience in the Nursery Pavilion.
The highly respected former international official will become the first umpire to deliver the Lecture, and will be the third Australian to speak at the annual event, following Richie Benaud, who delivered the inaugural Cowdrey Lecture in 2001, and Adam Gilchrist in 2009.
He is also the third Lecturer to be invited from outside the circle of former and current international players, after The Most Reverend Dr Desmond Tutu in 2008 and past MCC President and former cricket journalist and broadcaster, Christopher Martin-Jenkins in 2007.
After the Lecture, Taufel will be joined by former England captain and MCC President Designate Mike Gatting, and England and Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan, for a panel discussion on the hot topics in the game, led by radio and television journalist, Alison Mitchell.
Visitors to www.lords.org can listen to the Lecture live from 6.30pm.
Full YouTube video footage of the lecture and panel discussion will be available on the following day.
