After Australia had built a considerable first innings lead, McKenzie led the charge as England were dismissed for 202, setting the Australians just 69 to win. McKenzie - whose 20th birthday fell on the third day of the test - conceded only 37 runs from his 29 probing overs.
Despite their modest target, Australia looked to be in trouble at 19-4, but a 37 not out from Peter Burge steadied the ship and steered his team to a five wicket win. It proved a crucial victory, as Australia took the series 2-1 to retain the Ashes.
