Discover the Evolution of Women's Cricket

Women’s participation in cricket, both playing and watching, has grown exponentially, with around a third of cricket audiences now estimated to be female. The 2026 season marked a significant moment not just for Lord’s, but for women’s cricket more broadly. 

This summer, the Ground hosted a record number of major women’s fixtures, with 21 matches played. The fixtures included three ICC T20 Women's World Cup group stage matches and the Final, as well as the first Women’s Test match at Lord’s between England and India.

In the World Cup group stage, the match between Australia and India attracted 27,163 spectators, a world record attendance for an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group match, while the World Cup Final had 28,887 supporters in attendance – the highest crowd for a women’s match in the UK.

In the red ball game, as well as setting a new world record for a single day attendance at a Women’s Test match when 15,243 came to a captivating Day Two, the world record for cumulative attendance was also broken, as a total of 37,846 watched across the four days. These surpassed records previously held by the MCG.

The Rothesay Women’s Test match between England and India took place exactly 50 years after the first women’s international was played at Lord’s in 1976, when Rachael Heyhoe Flint led England onto the outfield.

This significant demand for women's international cricket builds a strong foundation for the forthcoming 2027 Women's Ashes series, which will see Australia Women return for Lord's for a One-Day International against England Women.

With the last Women’s Ashes T20 International at Lord’s in 2023 setting an attendance record of 21,610, before that record was surpassed at the Home of Cricket when 28,887 attended the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final in 2026, Lord’s will once again be targeting a sell-out for the upcoming Women’s Ashes fixture.
