About the exhibition

‘A History of Cricket in 50 Objects’ tells the story of cricket’s journey from a simple rural pastime played in south-east England, to one of the world’s most popular team sports with millions of devoted fans. 

Using 50 principal objects, it identifies a series of landmark moments and significant individuals in the game’s evolution, each with a story to tell about a stage in its history.

The Women’s Ashes were created in 1998. A miniature bat signed by the England and Australia teams, together with a copy of the WCA constitution, were burned in the Harris Garden at Lord’s and the Ashes consigned to this wooden ball.
