Meet Ernie the Ashes Urn

Ernie the Ashes Urn, MCC’s Ashes Mascot, makes the Ashes come alive for the young cricket fans that will be coming to Lord’s for the second Investec Ashes Test, beginning on Thursday 16 July.

Ernie the Ashes Urn, MCC’s Ashes Mascot, makes the Ashes come alive for the young cricket fans that will be coming to Lord’s for the second Investec Ashes Test, beginning on Thursday 16 July.

Known as Ernie for short - he was launched at MCC’s Spirit of Cricket day on Tuesday 16 June - where he interacted with the 600 children who were at Lord’s for the day.

His purpose is to raise awareness of the history and significance of the Ashes for future generations of cricket lovers.

During the Test Ernie will be found on the concourse and in the Food Village greeting and posing for pictures with children.

Primarily MCC’s community mascot, after the Ashes Ernie will attend local to Lord’s community events in support of MCC’s Community Development Strategy.

The development strategy focuses upon working in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the City of Westminster to enrich and positively impact communities through cricket.

MCC identified three areas of priority for the scheme, which are:
•    Educational and Employment,
•    Health and Wellbeing
•    Inclusion and Cohesion.
And hope that with the addition of Ernie the Ashes Urn MCC’s programme will continue to engage young people in our community.
